Motorsports Park Acres SOLD OUT!

You did it! Our amazing Corvette friends have spoken for all 184 acres in the Motorsports Park!

During the 60th Anniversary, Chuck and Sharon Fast asked to have acre 184 in memory of their daughter Kimberlee A. Fast. So even though we weren�t sold out, Chuck and Sharon took the last acre. Brent and Marilyn Hicks� commitment left us with just one acre and Steve and Patti Simmons stepped up to close out the program.

Watch for our NCM eNews, and we�ll continue to highlight everyone who has helped make our "Buy an Acre" Program a success.

Thanks to everyone who has helped us pay for the land for the Motorsports Park!

Though the "Buy an Acre" Program is now closed, features will continue until everyone has been highlighted. Here are this week's!

Marriage Proposal at NCM

When Erin Powell stopped by the National Corvette Museum with her boyfriend, Chris Lockhart, she was hoping to find the brick with her parents' name on it (Keith and Dianne). She had recently lost her dad, so this was an important trip for her. What she didn't expect was that Chris had planned to use that very spot to drop to his knee and ask her to be his wife. Chris and Dianne had called the Museum ahead to make sure we'd be able to share in the moment.

Raffle Ticket Buyer Splurges and Wins Big!

For Museum member Tommy Gleaton of Springfield, S.C., 290 was his lucky number. On May 23, 2013, Tommy�s ticket was drawn as the winner of a 2013 60th Anniversary ZR1 in a fundraising raffle sponsored by the Museum. Tommy told us he�s a gambler and has purchased tickets from the Museum for several years, but never the more expensive ZR1 tickets. This time around, he had a feeling that on this particular raffle, he might have a chance.

This ZR1 was unique not only in that it was the third to last C6 ZR1 to be built, but also because Chevrolet Chief Engineer for Small Block Engines, Jordan Lee, hand-built the 6.2L supercharged 638HP V8 engine at the GM Wixom plant.

Tommy was very impressed with his experience in picking up his new prize. �It was definitely a thrill walking in and seeing my new Corvette in person,� said Tommy. �It was so neat seeing it roped off and having the placard there with my name on it as the winner. All of the Museum staff were very friendly and helpful. This was a dream come true!�

His new ZR1 is the fifth Corvette he has owned. In the past, he has owned a 1975 L82 4-speed coupe, a 1999 Coupe, a 2002 Z06 and still owns a 2008 Z51 Coupe.

Young Racing Enthusiasts Create Their Own Le Mans

Christopher (age 8) and JP (age 11) Noga of La Grange, Illinois prove that you're never too young to get into racing. As members of Cub Scout Pack 83, they participate in the annual Pinewood Derby event where scouts build a special car made of pine wood, plastic wheels and a metal axle. While JP decided to build a Ferrari, Christopher, an avid Corvette fan, built the Compuware C6.R Corvette, paying homage to the Corvette Racing team.

GM Bowling Green Assembly Plant Named 2013 KAM Manufacturer of the Year

GM's Bowling Green Assembly Plant was named Manufacturer of the Year by the Kentucky Association for Manufacturers (KAM) at the 2013 KAM Manufacturer and Employee of the Year Awards ceremony.

This award is presented annually to a manufacturer in the state that showcases exceptional entrepreneurial spirit, community leadership and policy contributions to enhance the overall prosperity of the Commonwealth.

Dave Tatman, Plant Manager, accepted the award last Friday in Louisville, KY.

"We are honored to receive this award from KAM," Tatman stated. "General Motors has had a great partnership with our local community and the state of Kentucky. We are happy to be able to give back to this area that we have called home for over thirty years. "

The Bowling Green Assembly Plant began production of the Chevrolet Corvette in Bowling Green, Ky. in 1981 and has remained the exclusive home for over thirty years.

The plant currently employs more than 800 individuals and recently underwent a $131 million dollar renovation in 2012 and 2013 to prepare for the production of the Stingray.

Of that investment, $52 million alone went to renovations of the Body Shop that allowed for advancements in the design, technology and engineering of the car; including a $19.1 million pre-treatment system that is an exclusive addition to the Stingray production line.
