Corvette Plant Tours Re-Opening!

Chevrolet announced yesterday that public plant tours will resume at BG Assembly on Monday, October 14, giving enthusiasts a personal look at the production of the all-new, seventh-generation sports car.

Public tours include a one-mile walking tour of the Corvette production line. They are offered Monday through Friday at 8:30am, 11:30am and 2pm CT. Tours remain at $7 per person and reservations are strongly recommended. Tour guidelines and reservations are available on their new website at www.corvetteassembly.com.

Corvette Hall of Fame Inductee Doug Hooper Passes

2007 Corvette Hall of Fame Inductee Doug Hooper began racing in 1959 behind the wheel of his 1957 Corvette. A regular participant at Cal Club and SCCA Events, Doug's achievements note him as a world-class racer and one of the first drivers to have brought the Corvette to the international stage as a winning racing machine following his win in the “Times Grand Prix” in Riverside, California on October 13, 1962. He was one of the pioneers of Corvette Racing back in the '60's and continued up to the early 90's.

Doug was also a member of Southern High Sierra Corvette Club, recently inducted as an Honorary WSCC Member at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.

Doug passed away quietly on October 2 at 10am after an eight-month battle with kidney failure. Services will be in Oakhurst, CA on Saturday, October 19.

One Acre Club Spotlights

Master Tool Mfg. Inc. - Bob and Marlys Bitterman

Along with his two sons, Mike and Clint, Bob Bitterman recently took over full ownership of Mater Tool & Manufacturing Inc. in Hiawatha, Iowa. To celebrate this milestone, Bob and his wife Marlys decided to support the Motorsports Park project by becoming members of the One Acre Club. Bob's company had the privilege of contributing to the design and build of dies that produced parts used in the C5 Corvette.

"When I heard about the One Acre Club I thought it would be the perfect tribute to commemorate the purchase of our business and also support a project that promotes the production and price of owning a Corvette."

Bob and Marlys currently own two Corvettes - a 2000 Torch Red Coupe and a 2007 Velocity Yellow Z06 with Museum delivery. Read more about the Bittermans online here.

Gay Robinson

Gay Robinson's first Corvette was a late birthday gift in September of 1975, a new 1976 Corvette just delivered to a Chevrolet dealership. "My husband should have known better, as that gift resulted in me acquiring eight additional Corvettes over the years."

"A few years ago, while sitting in a member meeting at the Museum, Wendell Strode announced plans to purchase land for a motorsports park. I remember thinking, 'Wow, wouldn't it be nice to drive a Corvette as fast as I wanted to go.'" said Gay. "I listened intently, and with every visit since then I went to hear the latest about the project. Three visits to the NCM this year confirmed how important it is to me and everyone involved that we forge ahead. I look forward to every visit to Bowling Green and can only imagine the excitement the Motorsports Park will bring to every visitor."

EBAY AUCTION BENEFITTING NCM

C5R Engine Cutaway Picture Framed and Matted

This is a print that depicts the dynamic connection between the Corvette Racing program and the Z06 street car it helped to develop.  Artist David Kimble, famous for his highly detailed cutaway illustrations, has paired the 2000 season C5R  driven by Ron Fellows, Justin Bell and Chris Kneifel in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with the 2001 Z06 production Corvette. Framed with a specially cut matte, this would be the ideal gift for anyone who appreciates the technology transfer that turns America’s sports car into America’s race car and back again.

Auction ends October 10. Bid online here.
