I think it was at Carlisle when we were talking about seeing a video of the fuel intake of a top fuel dragster.  Here's a video of one of the cylinders.  At first viewing I was kind of surprised it was so little until I realized that was showing the intake during idle.

That video is a wee bit misleading, as are some of the comments below it. I believe what they are showing is the fuel pumps ability for fuel flow(volume) at idle and full throttle. Think aboot it....that much fuel in a single cylinder of an engine would hydro-lock that thing down so quick ya wouldn't know what hit ya. They don't show how much liquid that was, gallon-wise, but I'm betting it was more than 5 gal easy. Spread that same amount of fuel out to all 8 cylinders, and we're in bidness. If you've seen fuel cars in action, you've seen the raw fuel spitting out of the exhaust before the burn-out. That's because the engine isn't capable of burning the fuel being crammed into it at idle speeds. Btw..idle speeds on fuel cars are much higher than you might think.
It's a neat video....the whining noise is the pumps howlin to product that much volume in a short time. They also don't say what kind of pressure they're using.
I kinda laffed at the one comment about going around the cars, and the eyes burning. We used to have bets on which one of us could stand there the longest without closing the eyes, or running away. Made quite a few dollars back in the day doin that. LOL

another thing...the fuel pumps you see in the vid is actually a cut-away pump....non-functional. And they're not showing the actual pump being used for the vid....wonder why?

Sure, rain on my paradeLOL... I should have phrased it better.  The post was supposed to remind the folks who were in the conversation of the conversation.  We were talking about a display of a fuel delivery system that showed the amount of fuel dumped during a race.  All that display showed was the delivery system going into the manifold.

Boy I hate it when the guys with all the right info comment on my posts...sheesh.Big smile
