It was sunny here and 81 degrees F. Nearly broke the record for the day.
But sadly, it was also the day I tucked the old girl away for another Winter.
On a positive note, I can stash away some funds now for all those "to do" items planned for next Spring.
One thing I plan to do this Winter is repair the driver's side seat bottom. It developed a small rip near my left hip. Plus it had a small rip near my left knee. There are a couple of places in town that do great work.

What do you plan to do this Winter?

I want to pull my center console and fix my shift indicator, cigarette lighter and that pesky bouncing fuel gauge...

Gonna pull the seats so I can get to it all....

If funds and time permits I may tackle the power locks as well.

Being in Arizona, we are just getting our Corvettes out FOR the winter! I still have to finish getting mine back together after a new paint job in the summer!

By the look at what the weather is going to be, I'd say it was none too soon, Dave. Our son lives in Sayre, Pa. and we are all hoping and praying the storm isn't as bad as the weathermen say it could be for all of you up there in the northeast.

Ditto here Larry, we've lots of relatives on the east coast and we're praying for every one's safety in the path of the coming storms. Out here, it's just going to get a little wetter and cooler for the winter, it just makes it a little more difficult to work on the vettes. Trouble is, I haven't even begun the projects I hoped to start for last summer Unhappy. Home maintenance has priority, but I will get to drive when the weather is good. I always keep at least 2 ready to hit the road Big smile.

Gonna pull the carb on the Pace Car and send it out. local guy thinks the base plate is warped causing vacuum leak. All I know is that it runs like crap. Thinking about rear wheel bearings and trailing arms on the Silver Ann. That too, I'll rip apart and send it out.
Also trying to get my new garage finished up as much as possible before winter.

Why do you guys from the southwest have to start rubbing it in this time of the year? It's like throwing salt on a wound when we're putting the cars away. LOL

I have to paint my trike so it will be getting the garage love this winter.

And I'll be chasing the wife around as well Evil Smile

Yup, I just tucked her away the other day. The GTO is next.

Hopefully I make a lot of overtime $$$ this winter. If all goes well I should be able to do my 5.3 LS engine swap in the spring. Everything else is pretty much done.

Just need general maintance, right now we're securing outdoor stuff at the trailer in PA. then on Sunday doing the same at home in Jersey.
I don't put my Vette away for the winter, if the streets are clean and the weather is good I will use it during the winter. It doesn't mind the cold.

OK, Since this is my first winter with the Vette and I'm too old to be chasin the wife around, how bout a few tips on how to winter a Vette. I would guess you need to keep the battery charged and run the engine occasionally to keep the cylinders oiled, it probably woudn't hurt to top off the tank to keep out condensation, any other tips?

PB since we do not know where you live.....I'll tell you what I do in upsate NY
Top off the tank, throw some stabil in the fuel, unhook battery, do not start the car (cause's to much moisture), park it over my "carbag" with pieces of carpet under the tires, throw in some dryer shhets under hood and in interior, throw desicant bags under the car, put on the cover, kiss it goodnight and zip up the bag.
Thats my deal.

I usually keep mine in a semi-driveable state so I can pull her out without too much hassle if we happen to have a nice weekend day when I have some free time (yeah, right!).  But I do have a list: add a passenger side mirror, clock rebuild with quartz kit, sort out an e-brake issue and probably replace the rubber and short steel lines back there while I'm at it.  Also rebuild the shifter and I want to add a stainless luggage rack.  But my big priority right now involves some garage mods such as insulation, re-wiring, and sheet rock so it's not such a bear to go out there in the dead of winter.

And I'm not sure how much "chasing the wife around" will happen, but I definitely will be "chasing three kids around"  Smile

I too put my '75 away on Thursday after having it out for a good run; weather was just like summer that day here in southern Ontario.

Just some minor interior work planned for the winter; nothing too special. Looking forward to an early spring!

Cars are always ready to go when weather permits, no winter Vette projects this year. I do have plenty of inside the house projects - painting, etc.. Wife wants to sell the house and move to southwest Florida to be with the grand kids and her siblings. Not looking forward to any of it, so should be an interesting winter for sure. Yes, dear...........

Hoping for a nice dry winter so I can get out for a few long rides, I'll need it.

I'm still hoping to get in a few more rides 'til winter settles in.
When that time comes I'll top off the tank, pump up the tires a bit and throw in a few dryer sheets.
I start mine every ten days or so during the winter. If the driveway is dry I pull it out of the garage and let it run for a good 20 minutes or so.

I've got one kid in Catholic School and another going off to college, so no big projects this winter......I hope!

Both my cars got put away this weekend but hopefully only for a week or so. I try to drive them until we get the first snowfall and the roads get a dose of salt. The first 2 years I owned the 74 we drove it to church on Christmas Eve. Hopefully this year its the 72. Last week I drove the 72 to church with the top down. The wife wasnt happy about that but the Preacher heard what we drove and ask me thru facebook for a ride. Guess I owe him that since he forgives me when I miss.
I'm like a few others as I dont put them away in storage and I start them and pump the brakes every couple of weeks. Sometimes when its nice out and the driveway is dry I will drive them up and down the lane. Its private and about 250 yards long. Keeps things loose and moving.  Just hate this time of the year! Gets dark to soon and we are forced to drive regular vehicles all the time.
Look forward to the spring!
Rodney

I'm hiding the Lukester from Sandy for the next few days, then a final spruce up for the 2012 show season - Corvettes for Chip.

Then she goes under the blanket for a long winters nap - of course I do disturb her on mild winter days tho!!  Big smile

OuchThumbs Down In the process of putting them in storage. One will stay semi out as I'm gonna do trailing arms and possibly windshield and wiper bay. Gonna try the window rollers to see if they will seal up better in the rain.

Dave, I was considering doing some upholstery too. I was going to ask someone if they knew someone good. Not too much around here that I know of yet. Any suggestions?

Mine is still on the road. I actually had an issue with my steering gearbox that was recently replaced so it was repaired again under warranty. I had a brake master cylinder leak too.

I also found out that my #7 cylinder wasn't firing because the spark plug was fouled. Seems that oil is getting by the value guides or seats. Replaced the distributor cap and rotor too as they were a bit pitted.

Ever had problems with your heads or had them redone?

I should get it back after this storm.

I try to drive my car year 'round as the weather permits. Its been sitting with a nearly empty gas tank for the past month so I really need to get some gas in her.
Maybe this weekend I'll be able to scrape some rust off the rotors a bit.

Won't put mine in storage till after the Veterans Day parade here in Indy. Have accumulated some new items for it starting with new carpet and padding. I have new glass for the shift indicator, new boot cover for the shift lever, new lighter and ash try, new radio, have gotten white overlays for the gauges and polished metal dash overlays. Probably re-dye the doors and parts of the dash as well and other misc areas. Whew, I'm tired just thinking about it. Hope the weather is mild this winter so I can start on some of it, hate to try and do all that in the spring.

Dwight!!  I hope that you and the rest of the C-3 "family" are safe and sound.  I am still driving my 81 around town.  I plan to fix a short or something in my drivers window.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't.  I got about another two weeks of driving left (I hope!!)
I plan to drive her in the Veterans Parade in Milwaukee on the 12th of this month then proble put her to bed!!

Final drive of the season for "The Beast" was on the 11th of October.  "The Toy" was tucked away off-site on the 19th.  And the final drive of "BIGBRRD" was last night.  Still have winter prep to do on "The Beast" and "BIGBRRD" (change oil, pump up tires, etc) which will most likely happen tomorrow afternoon.

Cleaning up the Model A so I can take some pictures for the insurance agent in order to get some coverage on it.  No plans to get it running this fall, that will have to wait until the radiator gets checked out, the gas tank flushed out, and a new fan belt and radiator hoses get purchased.

Main project for the winter will be X-ing off the days on the calendar waiting for spring to arrive...!!!

Dave and all readers, Mine is resting in the garage as the weather is a bit rainy. As soon as we get a dry day(s) during the winter, I'm out on the road going for a nice warm ride. In the mean time I keep the tires insulated from the concrete floor with 1/2" plywood 12 x 18 panels. Additionally I use marine stable (blue in color) in my full gas tank. A battery tender is connected to my Optima Batter at all times.

EBO, Thanks for remembering! The hood looks awesome. I bought it from ACI and picked it up at the Carlise Corvette shw this year. She now looks like a 71 LT1! Despite the fact she came off the line as a standard L48. I'm on the fence about the LT1 hood decal package. But I have time debate that in my head. I'm looking forward to getting the in process pictures of the painting!

Jason, I have a memory like an elephant.
I remember telling you to go to ACI to get the hood.
I remember telling you they will bring it to Carlisle to get free shipping.
I remember going to their booth in the morning to see if you were their yet.
I remember going back to their booth later and they told me you did pick up the hood.
I remember not being able to meet you Unhappy

I think you can fix all the above by giving me a ride in the "Black Widow" Wink

Still have'nt stored mine yet either. No salt on the roadways yet and the weather around here remains good for Corvettes!

Last saturday I went to top off the tank and add the Stabil. It was 65 degrees, so my son and I decided to go for a little ride. 70 miles later the tank needed topping off again.

Today it was 50 degrees and SUNNY! Off we went for another ride. Just can't seem to keep the tank full.
It really runs good in the cool, dry air!

Enjoy 'em while you can.
Kevin

I've had mine out about 3 times since "putting it away". Weather here has been up and down but no salt yet. Had it out today for an hour long run as it's about 50F and sunny. Topped up the tank on the way home and a bit nore Stabil just in case it's the last run. Thursday is looking good as well this week so just maybe another run...they're calling for wet snow by Saturday.

Good lookin' out, Dave. I hope you had a good ride, too.

It looks like that "sad day" is coming real soon. Maybe we can hold it off a little longer.

Don't know when (or if) I'll be putting mine up.  We're in the middle of a drought here and with temps in the 60's and 70's, I don't know if we will have much winter.  Forecasters say a mild winter, so we'll just have to see.  Anyway, still get to drive for now.

Yeah, Joel, but when does your's "come down"? You only have it as a garage ornament! Next thing you know, we'll see pictures of it buried in junk! On a more serious note, it sure is hard to try to find time to do everything you want, isn't it? You're still the best, Joel!

Ok... "The Rooks" St. Louis Corvette Assembly photo trumps anything I've been able to take with my 'Vette. Nice!

As for the Winter, it's just another season for cruising in CA. The downside of living in California is smog-legal engines. The up side... I have to go to the mountains to see snow ~ and it's the perfect time of the year for cruising the Central Coast. Happy thanksgiving...

Well first I'd like to thank Al Gore for the outstanding weather, 58* today.
With that said....I bagged the Vette today.
We have a cold front moving in and may see some white stuff this week. It has been an unusually warm fall here in the Northeast. I'm counting on the Gore therory to have a unusually warm March!

It was in the low 60's and sunny Yesterday (for the early part of the day at least) yesterday in Indianapolis.  I took the opportunity to give the car one last wash and fill it up with some Stabil.

Ran out of time to cover - that will come tomorrow....

59 degrees here yesterday and sunny. Had the Vette out for a 230 mile round trip. Even had the T-tops off on the return home (heater on and windows up).  Got 14.4 US MPG or 18 MPG Imperial. Put the Vette away for good last night until next spring. Today it's 34 degrees out and there are snow squalls forming off of Lake Huron and heading our way. Amazing change in the weather. Shocked
