I have just made a change to the forums that will hopefully allow search engines (like Google) to index our forums.  This, in theory, should increase traffic to the site.

In order to do this, I had to figure out a way to get the search engine logged into the forums. The way I came up with will attempt to automatically log the search engine in as a Guest.

Here's the reason I need to alert all of you to this:

When you are on the log in page there is an option to automatically log you in whenever you come to the site.  If you have this option turned on, you will likely not be affected by this change.  However, if you usually log in every time you come to the forums, you will no longer see the login page right away.  You will be automatically logged in as "Guest".  You'll be able to read the forums in "Guest" mode, but if you want to post a reply or new message, or access other areas of the site related to your personal account, you'll have to click the "Login" button at the top of the page.  The other thing you may encounter when you are in "Guest" mode... if you click the Post New or Post Reply buttons, you'll likely see this:

Simply click the link to take you to the login page.  After you log in, you should automatically be taken back to the New Post or Reply page you were trying to go to in the first place.

I'm hoping this will be the only change and that everyone will still have no trouble using the site.

Please let me know if you experience any trouble or have questions.

With any luck...our thread will start showing up on Google and the like very soon.

Thanks!

Okay. This may no longer apply.  I did some research and found that what I changed would not help the search engines.  So I'm trying something else.  Which means things are back to they way they were for members.

Sorry for the confusion!

Well, it is starting to work.  Google has picked up our forum topic subjects.  It doesn't seem to have the body of thread yet.  So either it hasn't indexed them yet, or there is still something I need to do to make sure it gets in.

Here's a sample search.  This is a title of a thread in one of our forums: "NCM wants your pics of CCX2006"
