I have a 70 coupe that I imported to Australia about 25 years ago. I converted the car to RHD etc and was about 1 month from putting it back on the road when some jerks broke into the shop and ripped off the motor etc. I pushed the car aside and have not touched it again till last weekend when I decided to restore it.

The car was badged as an LT1, but I doubt that is the case as the motor only had 2 bolt mains and flat top pistons. I recall that this would not have been correct. The engine number matched the VIN.

What I need to know is how can I determine what model of car I really have? Is there a site somewhere that I can find all of this info. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunatly, the engine code was not added to the vin until 1972, so that will not help. There are some differences in the tach redlines on base and LT1 motors, but I'm not sure which is which. I recommend checking with the NCRS site, and asking there. You will get a definite answer there, if someone here @ C3VR doesn't come to the rescue!

Your tach should have a 6500 RPM Redline to be a LT1
