And exactly how is this accomplished...for the 'puter-impaired out there!
A slightly more robust answer perhaps - click on the 'Private Messenger' button ( ) near the top of any forums page and then click on the 'Inbox' icon ( ).

Review the messages listed there and when a message is open either click on the 'Delete' button (  ) found on the right hand side of the top line of the message or near the center of the bottom line of the message
- or -
from the message list click the box to the right of a message, or messages, that you want to delete and click on the 'Delete Selected' button which is found just below the message list on the right side.

If you simply want to flush all the messages in your inbox click on the 'Delete All' button which is found just to the left of the 'Delete Selected' button.

There is a limit on the number of messages that can be held in your inbox so it is a good idea to review them from time to time.  If there are several that you want to keep indefinitely you can click on the 'Email this Private Message to myself' link found below the text of an opened message, verify that it did make it to your e-mail box, and then delete the message from your PM inbox.

Hope this helped some.

Sure, Mick.....just send everyone in your "outbox' a message asking them to delete everything you sent them!!
I have gotten to where I "copy & paste" some of my P/Ms, so I can keep the info in them, but not on the C3VR server. I just e-mail the stuff to meself! That way I can delete the P/M box.

Nope - you don't know whether or not the message has been read yet.  Keep in mind that your OutBox is the other person's InBox and your InBox is someone else's OutBox.  Confusing ain't it...!!!

The number of P/Ms in your outbox has no effect on your ability to receive messages. I think it is there so you can see what you've sent to others, and if they have read it or not. [IMG]smileys/smiley20.gif" align="middle" /> Adams' Apple2006-09-15 17:38:35

I never paid attention to that before. I have always emptied my inbox but never looked into my outbox. I did today and see 2 pages of stuff. Some of which dates back to 3/05. If I tell ya ta pull the plug on it can ya go ahead and dump it? I didn't see anything in it that may make me not wake up in the morning.

I don't know how well you are being heard Jim. I checked this today and see some of the same message as before. (In fact there are 3 pages now. Some of the PM's are from members whom are very infrequent to the forum presently. You may want to investigate another avenue to cleanse the outboxes.
Just as a footnote I wouldn't be surprised if the outboxes don't continue to grow as trial members PM people and don't know that they need to remove the item from their Inbox or the cause -n- effect of not doing so.

Anything is possible to do from an administrator standpoint.  But to arbitrarily delete private messages is a little too "Big Brother-ish" for me.  Besides, there may be some information that folks really want to keep so that's why the option to send the message in e-mail form to yourself is there.

If the messages in my Outbox don't start to disappear in a few days I'll make a list of the folks and send an e-mail out asking them to review the messages I've sent them (which btw, have all been read by them) and either save the message(s) to their e-mail box or delete them.

The main reason to clear out your PM INBOX is because if you hit the limit (I think it is 40) you will no longer be able to receive more PMs.

If your OUTBOX is getting big because people that you sent PMs to aren't cleaning out their INBOX, is NOT an issue for you.  It does NOT affect your INBOX total.

I have 23 pages in my outty!!
I go thru mine every week or so, and e-mail(to meself) the ones I need to keep that have specific info, such as phone #s, etc. My inny still stays at least 50% full most of the time. I'm just SOOOO popular!

(NOT!)
... There is a limit on the number of messages that can be held in your inbox so it is a good idea to review them from time to time.  If there are several that you want to keep indefinitely you can click on the 'Email this Private Message to myself' link found below the text of an opened message, verify that it did make it to your e-mail box, and then delete the message from your PM inbox. ... Hey Gang!  Wanted to bring this to the top of the pile once again.  Everyone, please take a few minutes to review your PM Inbox and clean house a little bit.  And while you're at it check your IM stack also...!!!

There is enough information detailed above in this thread to assist you with this very simple task.  THANKS...!!!

I used to be limited to 40 messages in the In Box. Now it says I am allowed 80.
When did that change?

This has changed in the last few days...I was at around 50% full just a couple of days ago, and now, with a few more P/Ms in there, it is at 38%. Thanks, Adam!

Hey Gang!  Wanted to bring this to the top of the pile once again.  This is an old thread but an ongoing condition.  As noted above while the number of messages in your Outbox does not impact the number of messages you can receive there is the possibility that you have too many messages in your Inbox and you may not be able to receive any more.

So everyone, please take a few minutes to review your PM Inbox and clean house a little bit (and while you're at it check your IM stack also...!!!).  There is enough information detailed above in this thread to assist you with this very simple task.  THANKS...!!!
