Hi All-What do you guys think about this C4?  Good price????

Vette Link
I like the car but hate the miles. I wouldn't buy this car for that kind of money with those kinda miles. There are lotsa C4s around that have been garage queens that you will find in the mid teens.

I bought a 94 this year for $3500.00 that needed cleaned up, brakes, opti spark distributor, and some minor stuff with practically the same miles.

Other end of the spectrum is a friend of mine with a Torch Red 94 that he bought new. It sits in his garage absolutely mint and has 14,000 on the clock. Book price $14,000 so if it were me I would keep searchin..... JMHO.....

Good price. NADA average retail is $19900. Low retail is $14000. It may need an engine overhaul soon but at the Buy-it-now price, you would still be okay, money wise. If I were in the C4 market I would take a hard look at this car.

I have a '96, with less than 1/3 the miles that this one has--and given the market these days, I'd feel fortunate if I could get $13,900 for it.

And please--Monroe shocks presented as special equipment? Not even decent OEM Bilsteins? And whatever a 'Termanator' (sp?!) exhaust is. Plus, if the ECM has been reprogrammed, who knows if it will still pass smog?

IMHO, this one isn't worth the "Buy It Now" price. There are too many other lower mileage, less 'hyped' cars out there to choose from.

I'd pass.

The car looks clean enough, but I would request better pics of the interior, with the "custom seat covers" OFF!. Seats in these cars take a lot of abuse from getting in & out, and they're usually the first things to need replacing.
I wouldn't be too overly concerned with the mileage, but it is a bargaining tool. These cars will go well over 100,000 before needing any major engine work, if cared for properly.
The carpet in the rear storage area appears to have some issues, also.
I'd think a "Best offer" in the $10,000 range would be appropriate. Of course, I would also want to see/drive the thing before buying, or at least have someone I trusted look it over/drive for me.

And, remember too, a paint job will cost quite a bit, as the car is the wrong color....

I did ask for pick with top off and seat covers removed.  She updated the listing with the pics, but only one of the seats, which makes me wonder about the other....  What do you see wrong with the carpet in the rear...I don't see anything...

I kinda like the white paint with the ghost flames!!!!

Thanks for all of the feedback so far!

Hmmm...the pass seat is not the one that gets the most wear, but that's the one they decide to show nekked? I'd be concerned...those seat covers with the embossed emblem are hard to get, or at least they have been in the recent past. If the driver's seat is well worn, and with that many miles, it may be...

The carpet in the rear area seems to be un-glued from the storage doors...and the driver side storage door doesn't seem to have any way to open it...perhaps the carpet is completely loose, and they just flopped it in there willy-nilly for the pics? Not a big issue, but it's just noticeable...

I'd have too agree.  I'm always looking just for the heck of it,  and you might be able to get more "bang for your buck" on a C4 right now,  and with less miles..... IMO

Karen,
If you know any car dealers or wholesalers in your area you may be able to pay them a small fee to search at the dealer auctions. I attend dealer auctions here regularly and can buy nice C4s cheaper than I can buy from individuals. There are some risks involved if the dealer isn't real familiar with Corvettes. Many Chevy Dealerships take there trade- ins to the auctions so that those cars don't compete with the newer inventory on the lot.. I have seen some really nice C4s go for under $10,000 dollars. The car that you are looking at is in the ballpark for a retail deal. Obviously, I would try to get it cheaper than the BIN price. I certainly woudn't buy it without seeing and driving it. There are a lot of nice C4s out there. You'll find one that is perfect for you.

Karen, although the car does look nice, theres a lot more to consider here.  Everyone has brought up some good points.  How far is Junction City from you?  I wouldn't even consider a Bid on this car without seeing and driving it in person.

Sold my 95 Black on Black 6 speed car for 13000 2 years ago...with 70,000
miles on the clock..Car was great BUT after 6 years I jsut began to hate the color or should I say the amount of work it took to keep it clean...

Neighbor is a GM factory Rep... (not Chevy however)..104,000 miles means it still has at least 50,000 trouble free miles left in it or more.. Designed for 300,000 miles before it needs rebuilding..

My 95 never gave me a bit of trouble..just grew tired of the freakin work
it took to keep it clean..

The milage would not scare e at all... interior condition and weather seals
would be my concern...does owner have service records?

Karen, I would "honestly" look for a C5 from TX, CA, NM, GA, OK,  or FL.  Maybe take a look around in your area at a Dealer at the end of the month.  Usually, they will go down in price then trying to get their "quota" of sales by the end of the month.  Go to a Dealer that's not a big Corporation and they will "wheel & deal" with you better than a larger Corp..  Plus, you will get a warranty with the car.  A C5 cruizes better than the C4 and they are easier to get out of.  From one lady Vette lover to another........WinkWink Big%20smile

Hey Karen take a look at this car...

C5 FOR SALE

Mind you I am not endorsing the purchase of a flood damaged car but.... sure wouldn't stop me from looking, driving, considering it. Alot would depend on the history, definition of "flood damaged", talks with the previous owner, etc.

Bottom line is it is a nice looking C5 for El Cheapo dollarz.... It also leaves some good bartering room on the price.Just another thought....

Interesting....I got the Carfax report.  Looks like it was originally registered as a "lease vehicle" .  In Sept of '03, it was "inspected after an accident or other incident.  Flood damage reported."  Wish they'd be a little more specific....  It had only about 7,400 miles at the time of the "incident".  Looks like it just changed hand to this dealership.  Don't dealerships run Carfax reports on trade-ins before they take them?  What about the gnarly looking brake disc?  Is that normal wear or rust?  It also doesn't mention if the car smells.....  I think I'll ask them some questions.

By the way, I ran a Carfax on this C4, too.  It appears there have been 4 owners.  The seller on eBay says she bought it from the original owner...Maybe she just didn't know, but doesn't everyone get a Carfax or similar report before buying a used car these days?????  It's saved our butts a couple of times!!!!  When we were looking for the Hawg (older model Suburban) we discovered one where the odometer had turned over twice and the owner only knew about one (or so he said)!

Hi Joel,

the carpet in the rear of the C4 is not glued to the panels but rather held down on the leading edge with a velcro type fastener. The driver's side does not have a storage compartment thus no door or latch. Mostly ABS stuff in there.

Good girl run those reports & learn what you can. If you can get the previous owners name call them. Ask all the questions you can think of. You have nothing to lose.

Dealerships may not run the reports depending on who they are & what they are trading for. Sounds like this one didn't until it was requested and they found out the information at that time.

Those brake rotors will rust depending on where the car is and how long it has sat, the age and the make of the rotors. Mine develop some rusting over the winter. (but not that bad)

Where is the car located? It doesn't say in the add.....

Joel's keen eyes aren't deceiving him.... The carpet is up, loose, and wavy accrose the rear panel. I don't know about the 96 but the 84 - 94 cars had access doors on each side. One was to the braking system (FX3 - F45, etc). The other side was a storage compartment. Maybe our frigid feller from the north (Terry) will help us out here with some 96 knowledge in this area. It is also noticable that carpet is loose on the rear wheelwells. Either a sign of wear or excess cleaning. Either way it should be tighter. All minor stuff but gives a history of the cars care.

Karen,
I sent Porter Auto Group a message in your behalf seeking additional information on the C5.

"Can you provide me with detail envolving around the flood damage / when , where, level of submersion (if any). What is the current title type of car (passenger, salvage, other)?
How many previous owners has the car had? Has the car been involved in an accident(s)? If yes what was the monetary value of the accident and please elaborate as to the work done on repair? where is the car currently located? Can it be arranged to have the the car be viewed, driven, and mechanically / cosmetically inspected by a representative or myself personally?
Can you provide the previous owners name and phone number. I would like to ask them questions about the cars history.
Are there any other known or existing conditions other that those listed that need to be made aware of that have occured after this item was posted on EBAY?

Thanks....."

By the way I am still searching for the Z06 for your hubby so don't think for a minute I have given up on him... I know we can work this 2 vette transgression thing out if we all try......

Ps... I still have his number....

Welcome to '96 C4 carpeting. The carpet in loose because it was never down to begin with. No glue, no screws. That's just the way it is, draped over the fender well.

There is a hinged access door behind the driver but it is screwed down up front. No storage and no latch.

Thnxz Kevin... I guess I never noticed this before. I had a friend who had a Pewter 96 Collector but I can't say I ever looked in the back of it. I've had 84, 88, 89, & 94 C4's but only the 84 & 94 had rear carpet issues. They were that way when I purchased the car and I knew this to be issues to resolve. Their issues were primarily from age & lack of former care.

It is really no big deal it's one of those bartering tools at purchase and one of "I wanna correct later" things.

Good information to salt back for future review if I ever purchase a 96......

Too much money for the miles. I looked in a local publication today and found 3 each in the 25K milage area for less than $28,000. 2 were black and 1 yellow. All with the limited production black / red interior.

I never have had much luck with Craigs List Vettes I think everyone advertises and adds their own Corvette Tax to the sale cost.....

Let's keep looking that sweet deal is out there.....

I am most definitely NOT in a hurry.  I have to figure out what I (ooops, he) wants!!!!  Did they make a C5 Z06 with an automatic transmission???  Big%20smile  Sure is a purdy color on that one, though! kkfinch2007-07-22 20:41:08

Expensive, but..................SWEET!  I want that!

I saw a blue convertible (black convertible top) with 45,000 miles for $31,000, full TonguewarrantyTongue, it's a Grand Prairie, Texas car and saw the car fax info on it.  I think it's an '02.  Not a Z06, but the car was in excellent shape.  I looked it over real GOOD. Big%20smile I was impressed. Wink
Hey Karen take a look at this car...

C5 FOR SALE
Got some info on this car from the seller.  Here's what they say:

"As far as we know this vehicle was in hurricane Floyd, I was told that the water level only came just past the bottom door jam. We are looking into getting more information about it. There is no bad odor in the car! There isn't too much rust as you can see in the photos, only the normal wear and tear from what we've seen and in the photos. The disk brakes get rusty when a vehicle doesn't get driven as often as it should, I'm sure this humidity we're having lately doesn't help either."

"Just past the bottom door jam"...  What about electrical issues?  Think that would be a problem?  Not that I'm seriously considering this car...need to wait for awhile.  But, I am curious.  What are the implications of water in a car past the bottom door jam?

If it has gotten wet, there will be a musty odor that WILL return when their sanitizers wear off.  Remember, the newer Corvettes are complex electronic machines with several miles of wiring that can be very moisture sensitive.

Take.....your......time.....and the right Vette will show up just around the corner.       Rich

Karen,
I wouldn't touch the flood car. As jayare stated there are too many potential electrical issues to list. It would have gremlins in the future for sure. Keep looking.

Door jams... lets see.... brakes, torque tube, tranny, rear end, starter, wiring harness, that shoud about do it.

They haven't answered me yet I think their skeered! I'm gonna send them another post just fer the fun of it...

I'd still look at it fer the money.... 10K saving can go along way towards repair if the title is clear.....

Do you think it was fresh water or saltwater?

The whole story sounds "fishy" to me.
