Hello all,
Here's a link to what I feel is one of the most well built Mako 2 repli-cars out there, the door skins cut into the rear wheel wells like the GM Mako did and the headlights don't ruin the beauitful lines of the front clip, also note the special side pipes.
I have a hand drawn ad for this body kit, it has no info on it as to when or where this kit came from, is it another Silva take off?
The site says '89 and the paint treatment is very 80's
http://fedrelandsvennen.no/tema/amcar/show/trcrus89/trcrus89.html|bouncy|
I have asked in the past and been ignored lets see if anyone that comes by here knows anything about this wonderful custom,
I only know what I have stated here.
Otherwise I hope everyone is doing wonderful....
Cheers, T. |cheers|

Just so you know someone saw it! I think it looks neat, and don't know a lot about Makos, but it clearly isn't an 80's Corvette(might be obvious to everyone else, but the previous post confused me) I don't think I've ever seen mirrors like that one has on any other Vette? would those also have been custom built when the car was converted?

It's anyones call if the mirrors are hand built or off the self, many cool aftermarket mirrors have come and gone during the years,
I've seen GM show vettes with mirrors on the windshield pillars....

Jack Gray sent me a picture of this car, maybe he knows something about it.
I have seen kits with the wheel wells cut into the doors.
Tyla, if you remember, that picture I sent you of that clip in my garage had monster flairs and was cut into the doors.
I remember that clip having roof panels, door skins, and a few other odd things with it, including some interior panels.
As far as I know that particular kit that I am talking about can still be bought from the guy for around 3K.

It appeared in at least 2 different magazines. You need to find somebody that has a copy of those magazines and then get a translation. They might come up on e-bay now & then ???

I have a cousin who lives in Trondheim AND is a real car nut. If you know the names of the magazines I'll e-mail him and ask him to see what he can find out about the car. I'll send him the URL you posted anyway and see if he can back track it any just from that.

Just since I posted this I contacted the owner of the web site that car is on, here is his reply...
>>"Hi Tyla

This is the only pictures I have. The car is located in Trondheim Norway.
It was first built like this in the late seventies/early eighties. Then some years later the garage where it was parked burned, leaving only the Corvette frame intact. So this is the second version of the car, I think it was finished like this about 10 years ago.

Best regards from Norway

Randy I thought I recalled you telling me that you knew something vauge about this variation, you've seen it hands on, do you think it's a Silva "pull off"
If any of you guys have more pics please send them on to me....
Many thanks,

I have really studied the pictures and this is by far the best kit I have seen to date. I bet it is a kit and not a one off.
You know there is that company in Canada that sells a kit, I wonder if it could be that one???
This particular car has a lot of GM looking stuff on it. Check the front louvers where the side marker should be. Also check the side structure. Whoever built it knew enough about the real car to duplicate some of the minor stuff. Outside of the wild paint, it is a great car. Wonder what kind of power it has and what the interior looks like.

I love details....that car is a kit but rare, in the hand drawn ad for that kit it shows all the unique stuff,
I recall requesting info for a mako front cap for a mid year and got this package in the mail, the man was older in poor health and was in the upper states, he told me on the phone he owned all the molds,
It would be weird if that man had been Silva. |eek|
You notice if that front clip started out as the same clip I have it's been highly reworked.

The paint tells me it's a late 70's early 80's thing, I love that cheesy metal flake on the Corvette summer car, just wouldn't paint my car that today.
Then again I liked your purple paint you hated....lol. |toungecool|

Here's the Canada web site http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/corvette.html
all there pictures are from other peoples catalogs many of which are long out of business, like Scorpion a spin off of Korkys....

Never talked with anyone who has bought from them....

Back in 78 or 79 I had a 70 coupe. It was silver and black metalflake with blue stripes. It was the koolest thing back then. It had those wire basket wheels and header side pipes, which I still love today. I will look for a pic and send it to you. I guess thats why I love sharks, they are accepted for what they are, no more, no less. |thumb|

I know I've said it before, the skys the limit with the right $$$. Obviously whoever built this car did'nt have any limitations, that still happens. There are specialty builders regionaly, the most popular one around here is "Thunder Road" in Dunstable, MA. You got the money, they'll build it.I do'nt know about them side pipes though, Love to see how they cast them, that would be an education in itself. |saluteflag|

You know how it goes Harry, some people go out and buy a custom already finished, some pay to have it built, the ones who crack me up are the ones who try to act like they did the work with their own hands but lack any knowledge of the build up.
No doubt any radical custom just like a 100% restro costs big bucks if a person pays to have it done, the amazing thing is just how cheaply a car can be built if the person uses their own hands and mind and roots around for the bargains on parts.
It all depends on what a person wants and how they want to get there.

I just can't decide if the side pipes on that car are cast metal or just well made fiberglass covers, To me they "look" metal because my mind expects them to be metal, you know how much fine detail is hidden even in the best of pictures.

Here's part of the e-mail I received from my cousin in Trondheim:

"Regarding the mystery car, I remember the car very vel from the end of the 70`s. It was customiced here in Trondheim, and I`ll see if I can find out what happend to it. There is a American Car Club here in Trondheim,. If you go to http://www.amcar.no they have an English summary there."

There is more text in Norwegian than English (I wish I understood more of it than I do) but if you send them an e-mail I'm sure you'll get a reply in English.

My interest in that car comes from it being the only one I have seen built yet I have a rough ad for the kit,
It's very close to the GM Mako,
In my case my Mako 2 project will be more customized to my tastes than the "off the shelf" Silva Mako 2 rebody, Maybe I'll call mine a Mako Shark 2 SS....lol

I have personalized tags on some of my stuff.
The motorcycle has " Hoggley"
The truck has "I-H20-SKI"
The shark had " NOTARED1" since all corvettes are red, I thought that was kinda different. |biggrin|

Here's an update from my cousin in Trondheim:

 Hi Jim,

I talked to the owner of the "Mako Shark" last night. His name is Einar Walsjø and he and the car is here in Trondheim. The car is a 69 model and Einar spend 7000 hours on the last "rebuliding". I`ll send you a magazine with an article on the car by regular mail.

Take care,

Morten

Here is my reply to him:

 Hilsen Morten,

Mange, mange takk for the dectective work on the '69 Mako Shark. Tell Einar that there are a bunch of folks who would like to make contact with him on the internet Corvette Club I belong to. There is a forum dedicated to the Mako Shark owners on The C3 Vette Registry (https://www.c3vr.com) and I know he would be welcomed there.

Also thanks for the copies of the magazine articles. They arrived today. I'll have to brush up on my Norsk in order to read them...!!! I may scan them and send them to who ever wants a copy.

Enjoy!

Jim

He sent copies of several magazine articles about the car which arrived today. They are dated February of '79, October of '80, and October of '85 (this one is in color!). The only problem is they are all printed in Norwegian! But if anyone is interested in a copy of them just let me know and I'll send one to you.
