Yup, it's the Pacer's Birthday today Clap

Built on April 24, 1978 she sold at Ron Tonkin Chevrolet in Portland, OR on April 18, 1978. I don't have the original window sticker but the sticker price should have been around $13650.00 The first owner bought it for $22500, $9000 over the sticker.

To celebrate the Pacer's birthday I took her to Ron Tonkin Chev to see if anyone remembered the day it sold and to see if they had any other documentation on the Vette. The only person who had been there for 30 years had retired about one week prior to my visit doh

It was a fun trip anyways in the on and off pouring rain and scattered flurries.

So

You know I've been thinking today, you may think $9000 over book isn't too bad, well the regular 1978 Corvette Coupe was $9000 in 78 Wink

Hey Mark, my 78SA listed out at $13200. Dealers at the time were also getting $1K to $2K over sticker on the B2Z painted Vettes, and I'm sure on the other 78s, too. One dealer that I know of would put the "Limited Edition" Pace Car decals on to justify the price increase!

I'm confused about those dates, built on 4/24 but sold on 4/18? Am I not reading it right?

In any case Congrats, you have a special car there. Dave W. and I stopped at the Indy speedway on the way home and they had one there.

I thought the same thing Dave but Joel was telling me (which make sense) that a lot of people were plopping money down on these Pacers well in advance of their arrival at the dealership which ment they were actually sold before even being completed Big%20smile

If the paperwork was completed, and the money exchanged, the vehicle was considered "Sold", thus the Sold date being before the actual build date. The '78 Pacers had many folks paying WAAAAY too much money, to be able to guarantee they got one.

It wouldn't surprise me to find the ALL of the Pacers were sold like this...or at least a large percentage of them....some people...geeez!

I mean...it's JUST a car....
