Seems you contacted me a few months back via email...

A lot of what I'm going to say here is my opinion based on things I have actually read, just because I read it doesn't make it true, but here goes how I believe it to be, the First Mako shark2 re-body kit or "MACO" as it was spelled then was built in the early 70's by John Silva,it had a tilt front clip as mine, the side rocker/cowl pieces and a rear clip, also a plate to fill the wiper door area and inner wheel wells.
It would apppear that he offered the rear either as a full clip or in pieces like the bumper, rear window, flares, spoiler.
He built around 125 turn key cars, at one point he teamed up with Motion performance, jumping past that soap opera we'll just say they parted ways with about 5 turn key Motion Maco sharks being built, however Motion used one of the Silva bodies to build a mold.
They is no way to be sure just how many macos were built or are still around, personally I feel the number built was around 200 and left is less than 100.
The Motion mold is where my front clip came from, Motion also offeres the rear clip. I went with Cragar wrap around louvers on the 78-81 rear glass to get a bit more practical in a daily driver yet keep the mako look.
I am using a custom rear bumper that I will modify to look more Mako-ish.
I got in a hurry to start my project,
Mr Motion sold me my front clip for 3000.00 a price far too high for what all I didn't get, mine just came with the side rockers/cowls and inner wheel wells, I have had to put many hours into research and building the tilt hinges ( Modified Hammitt designs ) and all the inner under clip structures, like hinge and headlight and latch mountings, these where installed in the Silva kits.
There is more information and pictures set up at http://makoshark2.com/index.php
Also links to Motion can be found there.
Hope this shine a bit of light....
Cheers, T. |cheers|
