Me either. The price on Magnaflow website is over $900. I see them all over the online sites for the $700. Maybe I should have sent a lower bid? I have had the stock type 2" aluminized pipe system on there for about 13 years. It is still in good shape but I wanted something better for a long time now so I did it.

Ok guys, here is where I am so far. I removed the old system and was careful enough not to destroy it. Just in case I find someone that would want it.

I first tried fitting the front pipes to the manifolds. I ran into a small issue with the brackets they have welded to the rear of the pipes. I believe they are suppose to attach to the crossmember but they are to high and hit my trans. I will probably end up cutting them off a little and bending them to where it will work. The driver’s side was so bad I could not fit it in place.
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc149/Redwingvette/Magnaflow%20exhaust/DSCF00...
I also have to trim the flange a little because it is binding on the studs coming out of the manifolds.

The rest of the system including the X-pipe and mufflers are in place but not bolted together.
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc149/Redwingvette/Magnaflow%20exhaust/DSCF00...

The mufflers are way back inside the valance panel because of the turn-down-tips. once I get the rest of the system clamped together I will be adding some pipe to the ends and attaching my 73 tips to them.
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc149/Redwingvette/Magnaflow%20exhaust/DSCF00...
Thats all I have time for today.

I was thinking the same thing myself Barry, but it is said that, though vettes appear to be made in assembly line fashion, they are all custom fit. Don't know if that means just for the body or if it extends to many more incidentals throughout the process. You gotta wonder though Confused.

I won't know how they sound for a little while yet. We are going to get 6-10"s of snow tomorrow into Wed.
A friend of mine has a AFR meter so I can tune the carb to the new exhaust so I drilled the holes to put in the O2 sensors today at work.  The welder is going to weld in the bungs for me when he gets a break tomorrow. Then I will be able to finish the install. I ordered a couple of new tips for the rear.

I still have to make some pipes off the back of the mufflers for them. These are made for the 2 1/2" tail pipes. The stock 73 tips are only 2 1/4".

Hey Redwing,
Glad to hear your exhaust install is underway. Those tips look cool!
I was wondering how much, if any, modification had to be done to get the new exhaust past your 2004R trans.
Hopefully you'll get it finished and be able to drive it soon.
Kevin

Update time.
So far I have only 2 remaining issues from this install.
1st one is I don't like how close the rear pipes are to the TRW spring so I am going to add 2-3 inches to the length of the X-pipe.
This will move the mufflers more toward the rear of the car but that will help with the 2nd issue.
The X-pipes fit in without any issues.
2nd issue is how I am going to attach the new tips to the mufflers.
I decided to cut off the end of the turn-down tips and weld on a short piece of pipe once I get the mufflers mounted. I think this is really going to be easy. I am checking with a local muffler shop for the stainless pipes I need. Should be able to put the finishing touches on this week.

Finally got the time to finish this project. Only thing left is to clean up and make a video.
I had a local performance exhaust shop make up 4 stainless steel pipes for me. Nothing to complicated, 2 1/2" OD x 6"s long with 2 1/2 ID on one end of each. I later cut them to length as needed.
The first two I put at the end of the X-pipe to push the rear pipes a little further back from the TRW spring.
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc149/Redwingvette/Magnaflow%20exhaust/DSCF0005-2.jpg

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc149/Redwingvette/Magnaflow%20exhaust/DSCF0007-2.jpg

The other two were used for the tips.
I cut the turn down tips off the mufflers leaving about 3/4" to attach the new tips.
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc149/Redwingvette/Magnaflow%20exhaust/DSCF0011.jpg

Once I figured out the angle the tips needed to be at off the back of the mufflers I fit and welded them on.
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc149/Redwingvette/Magnaflow%20exhaust/DSCF0012.jpg

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc149/Redwingvette/Magnaflow%20exhaust/DSCF0015.jpg

I cut the hanger barbs off the mufflers because I am using the stock muffler hangers for the 73.
You can see I also wraped the pipes with header insulation from Thermo Tec around the spring.
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc149/Redwingvette/Magnaflow%20exhaust/DSCF0016.jpg

I still have to replace the old rusty hangers with some new ones before I can really be finished so the Gibson tips are not clamped in place yet.

Lookin sharp Brian!! Thumbs Up

Don't know if you have one, but they sell a heat shield that mount's below the composite spring to reduce the heat transfer for the exhaust tubes.

Wold love to hear what she sounds like when it's all done!!
