Yes, yes, yes I know where it should be or at least where the assembly manual says they should be but they're not there.  As I look around I see one on the passenger side maybe 2 inches from the exterior wall of the fender.  It's in line with the actuator but way to the outside.  Difficult to see, I can see the ground and can feel the horn outlet but that's it.  Anyone else have a horn in this local?  I thought that maybe it was changed by the previous owner but it I can't see why anyone would go through the trouble of putting it here.

Is that horn by the fender for the alarm? My red 80 has them up by the headlights.

Ebo, If you look at the assembly manual for my 81 it shows the horns near the center of the nose.  In actuality they are to the outside of the passenger headlight actuator, very close to the fender wall.  You can barely see half of one, just past the bracket that it is attached to, and if you are able to get your hand on it you can feel it and almost convince yourself that it is indeed the horn.

Ya they are there in the 81 also.  You gotta be a contortionist to get to them!!

The horn for the alarm system DOES require a contortionist. It's above the muffler on the driver side. Next to impossible to see and more impossible to service without a hack saw for removing the muffler.

Is there any other way to get to that horn? Mine... of course... does not work. Disapprove

Easy to get to with the motor out! The red vette is getting new chassis paint so I've been in there cleaning and making a "while your at it list"

"while your at it list"...hmmm.  This al started because I decided to change the brakes on the car. Then it went to, in order(and this really did start out as a while you're at it.):

New SS calipers, master cylinder and brake lines
replace all ball joints
bushings in "A" arms, lets take those out and powder coat them as well
beefier anti-sway
new springs and shocks
lets just say the whole front suspension was done...woohoo
can't leave the back alone lets redo the trailing arms
Brand new italian leather seats
matching dash
rugs
LETS REBUILD AN ENGINE
LETS BUY A NEW CRATE MOTOR INSTEAD!!
Dual exhaust anyone?
hmmm, how come some of this electrical stuff isn't working?

Been about 10 yrs I think.  Somewhere in there I finished up my wife's, now ex, 67 Camaro.  I still love working on it with my daughter and taking it out on the street, just to turn it around in the driveway.

It's this close to being road worthy.  I was hoping for the begining of June but now I'm hoping for early fall.

Here are the AIM pages for both the '81, and '82 horn locations....it's possible some '81s used the upcoming '82 location, but who knows....
btw..I think the reason for moving the horns out to the fenders on the '82 had to do with the new intake ducting for the Mis---er...Crossfire intake....

Finally got to the horns.  I had replaced everything on he steering column, the relay and the fuse.  Still nothing at the horns.  The nice thing is I can hear the relay click so at least i knew everything up to there was ok.  My big fear was taking the horns out, testing them and finding out they were ok.

I got in there to get the mounting/grounding bolts out without a problem.  I couldn't get the horns out without putting the headlights up.  Got them out and tested them and the don't work...luckily.  Yes, for the time I am going to assume that simply(LOL) replacing the horns will fix my horn problem.

I told my daugter I was going to order either the oooga horns or the ones that play the Dukes of Hazard theme.  She says "What are the Dukes of Hazard?"...I wanna shoot myself some times...Wink

Funny you should say that... The (living) Dukes cast are coming to a car show about an hour from my house today.

http://theadvocate.com/utility/homepagestories/6763695-129/just-the-good-ole-boys

The "Incredible Hulk" Lou Ferrigno is also going to be there.  I asked the kids (15, 13, 10) if they wanted to go.  Same response as yours.

We are officially old, now.

Oh, and I don't think Catherine Bach looks like she does in the link...  But then again, do any of us look like we did 29 years ago?

Love the horn Joel!  I'd like one of those an octave lower - so they think a freaking ship is crawling up their butt.  I, like you, have no patience for "drivers" that do everything but drive when they're behind the wheel.

Dave - glad to hear you're getting your horn issues squared away...mine is in the steering wheel.  Rebuilt that thing twice now & it STILL only works when it wants to LOL  Hope you get to come to Carlisle - looking forward to meeting you!

I wonder if I can get a horn that screams "GET OFF YOUR PHONE" or "STOP TEXTING"?  Although, when I yell at them I seem to get a similar reaction.Wink

I ordered a set of air horns.  I'll test them before hand to see if I like t he sound and loudness. If not, I'm ordering the Stebel!

or this
