I'm working on my second one.
The first one I had built when I was in Little Rock Arkansas 1984 by a place called County Corvette. It was a 1978 vette. The kit was the Eckler's Daytona widebody.
I sold it in 1988 to a guy that lived in PA. Not sure where it is now, but it did show up in a Corvette calendar in the early 2000.
I tried to locate my original in hopes of buying back with no luck, so decided to go the "build" route.
Living in Central Florida, I was able to easily contact the folks at Eckler's to learn they had destroyed their molds in the '90s. Also Greenwood that gone out of business and auctioned off all their molds and assorted parts laying around the warehouses.
I was able to scavange parts from a variety of different places, so the vehicle I'm finishing now is a hybrid Eckler's/Greenwood. There are some subtle and not so subtle differences so I had to do some "custom" work to get things to "fit".
I talked with the Eckler's folks at the NCRS show in Central Florida ithis past January and they said they are in the process of bringing back the Turbo and Daytona parts. There is a Corvette shop in Titusville called Stingrays just down the road from Eckler's that reportedly will be doing the fabrication.
I bought the "whale tail" from ShowCars out of Canada. It took a while and a ton of phone calls, but I finally got it. They advertise that they have all the parts, unfortunately they have got a pretty rough online rep and they're across the border making it a little tougher to "check up on the progress" of your order.
Vanacor was another outfit that was building some of the widebody parts, but they have closed. Not sure if their molds have passed hands or just sitting in a warehouse.
Hope this helps.
