That pic is of our club presidents car. It's based off of a '77 I believe.

We refer to it as the diaper changing vette.

DavefromArizona is the resident wagon Guru. He did have two of them at one time...not sure how many he has now, but I'm sure he still has "Cherry Love".

We also used to have a member with an old Greenwood works car. Can't for the life of me remember his name, tho. The car was on display at the NCM for a while.

I'm working on my second one.

The first one I had built when I was in Little Rock Arkansas 1984 by a place called County Corvette. It was a 1978 vette. The kit was the Eckler's Daytona widebody.
I sold it in 1988 to a guy that lived in PA. Not sure where it is now, but it did show up in a Corvette calendar in the early 2000.
I tried to locate my original in hopes of buying back with no luck, so decided to go the "build" route.
Living in Central Florida, I was able to easily contact the folks at Eckler's to learn they had destroyed their molds in the '90s. Also Greenwood that gone out of business and auctioned off all their molds and assorted parts laying around the warehouses.

I was able to scavange parts from a variety of different places, so the vehicle I'm finishing now is a hybrid Eckler's/Greenwood. There are some subtle and not so subtle differences so I had to do some "custom" work to get things to "fit".

I talked with the Eckler's folks at the NCRS show in Central Florida ithis past January and they said they are in the process of bringing back the Turbo and Daytona parts. There is a Corvette shop in Titusville called Stingrays just down the road from Eckler's that reportedly will be doing the fabrication.

I bought the "whale tail" from ShowCars out of Canada. It took a while and a ton of phone calls, but I finally got it. They advertise that they have all the parts, unfortunately they have got a pretty rough online rep and they're across the border making it a little tougher to "check up on the progress" of your order.

Vanacor was another outfit that was building some of the widebody parts, but they have closed. Not sure if their molds have passed hands or just sitting in a warehouse.

Hope this helps.

I know a guy Andy that has a greenwood & it might be on a 78. He was the president of the NNCC  corvette Club in Delaware for a few years. If I remember right the car was white & large.
I'm sure Adam knows him as they must see each other at shows.

Too bad there's not an easy way to know how Daytona widebody's were ever built. There was one for sale at the Mecum auction here in Florida in Jan. Not sure if it sold or where it went, if it did. At the same show was one of the original 5 race ready cars made by Greenwood. I'm sure it was going for a pretty hefty pricetag.

Procketus, could you get the specs on those wheels your Club President has on his Daytona? I presently have 17 inch Torque Thrust II's on my Daytona but am thinking or going bigger. The brand new tires I have on it have begun to dry rot since it was sitting under a tarp for 10 plus years. So if I need new tires, it's a good time to look for different wheels. Thx...

There is a 1976 wide body DAYTONA conversion here in Ontario. It's on kijiji.ca in a town called Hawkesbury. The car was built in the tacky eighties and has some crazy spoilers and such on it. He's looking for 34k...for a LONG time. I also have a set of the pontoon flares, never installed, from the 70's that I'm going to be making molds from.

Yeah, you definitely have to be careful with the paint job, striping and other mods that take the look of the body from race car to gaudy. Regardless what you do, though... it still says 80's. Mine is getting closer to getting on the road, but if I ever walk out to the garage and look at the car and it reminds me of too many nights at the Disco, you'll see it on Ebay.... Smile

New guy here in North GA. I would be interested to know if those 2 in Atlanta behind the shop are available. I am looking at getting a wide body 78-82 Corvette at some point. It will be my first Corvette I hope. Missed one on Craigslist Atlanta last month.

Man that thing is butt ugly.  The '67 scoop and the over sized '64 side gills need to go.

Everybody has different feelings about my Cherry Love, but as I always say, you build your the way you like it, this is the way i like mine.  BTW, they are not oversized side gills, what is on the fenders are a kit that is/was sold in most aftermarket catalogs, just called side vents.  See how many places carried them, must have been a bit of a market, i know i didnt buy the only ones.
Funny you should mention the hood, getting that 67 scoop on the there was the hardest part of the job, it took the guy, a professional fiberglass man, more than 40 hours to cut and mold it on, and i have never had anybody who has seen it in person think it looks bad.   The usual word used is "mean".  You may have missed that it has louvers down the top of it?
The majority of the people who knock Cherry Love are the local vette club purists, who think that the only good vette is a totally original one.  Since mine is just a daily 75  done up, i don't see where it mattered what was done to the body.  If it were rare or low milage or collectable, i could see knocking it.
I do hope, Gary, that your Vette makes you as happy as Cherry Love does me

Making some progress on my 1980 wideBody...

Was hoping to make it to the NCRS Winter Meet in Lakeland, Fl, but looks like I'm going to come up short.

Wow, these bring back some memories.  Spent a few years in SoCal doing these conversions, used the Can Am flare kits from Eckler's back then.  They were actually pretty quality parts and installed well.  Still bothered me a bit to whack up a cherry Corvette to put these kits on them though.

Yeah, my first Ecklers Daytona Wide Body conversion was done to a perfect 1978 Yellow Anniversary model. I hated to do it, but it was the only Vette I had and the kit showed up out of nowhere... so I figured it was destiny.
This conversion I felt a bit better about, since it was a somewhat tired 1980, looking for a new lease on life. Now I just have to get it finished...

I have a 1970  big block coupe that was done in cali in the mid to late 70's. It looks to follow the lines of the 74 and the whole interior besides the seats were updated too. Even has the javelina corp digital gauges.
