Has anyone had any experience with these louvers? i was told that they look pretty good and help keep the car cool in the summer. I would love to see a picture of what the look like on an actual car if anyone has them. thanks Richard

When I bought my '78 it came with a set of metal louvers (not installed), I put them on ONCE, IMO ugly. The rear glass has scratches from where it was. Still trying to buff those out. It's your call but protect the glass, if you do choose them maybe the plastic won't be that bad.

I'll see if i can find a better picture too.... to be honest, the louvers came with the car... they are aluminum, l've never had them off, nor do i know just how they are held on... i know, bad bad jimmy... there is a twist type lock on them that looks like it takes a spanner type key to unlock, to remove the center louvers.. it does provide some shade for the rear area, and doesnt impair for the most part(still some blind spots), the rear view. I think it does add a little character to the car, kinda a 70's style i suppose.. hmm, maybe i should look at doing the interior carpet in shag??... psychodelic shag.. with a little disco ball hanging in the rear compartment?... errrr, anyhow, i'll look for a better pic, or just go outside and take a picture.. :)

Of course, it was manufactured by Monogram, not GM

Having worked on many C3's I have seen a lot of different louvers. Some of them are cheap, some are nice quality. I don't know about the set you have. The good ones stay in place well and provide most visibility. I have never had a problem seeing behind while driving or parking a C3 with them.
They do keep the rear carpet from fading in the sun, and provide a bit of privacy, but not much. Some of them lift off easily, some require a basic screwdriver to bit to remove them, some just stay put and make it hard to clean the window.
It comes down to the quality of the individual set, and your personal taste.

"BIGBRRD" arrived with a louver set on the rear window. It was the first thing to come off of the car and still resides in the attic of the garage never to go back on. Also still trying to buff out the scratches on the glass. Will be putting it out on eBay sometime so hopefully some other 2nd gen Camaro/Firebird owner will want to own it.

These come down to personal choice. If you get them get a good quality set that won't scratch your glass and is easy to access the glass for cleaning and also good visibility. I tend to think they look better on a dark colored car. As for me I don't have that big a## rear window.That's not a bad thing.

I have a set of cragars on my 80, they came with a little church key type lock. They are aluminum, all one full blade from side to side. Great vision nice contrast against the white that had all that glass. Never have seen any scratches as noted from these. They have been on the car for 25 years. If I could find another set I'd buy em for the project car.
