This is my first forum post, forgive me for any etiquette failures. I've searched high and low through the forums and can't find any threads on roll bars. Either that or I just failed on search 101.

I'm wanting to add a basic roll bar into my 74 convertible such that I can attach 4 or 5 point seat belts to the bars and hopefully have an SCCA compliant roll bar at the same time. Would also be nice if I could still use the soft and hard tops as I'm not yet ready to make this into a 100% race car.

Anyone have any experiences with roll bar installations and/or brand recommendations to share?

Thanks,
George Lehmann

George, welcome to C3VR and your first post looks great. Wish I had some input to your rollbar request but I'm sure someone will chime in. Good luck with your project and remember that if your not at least grazing a few orange cones, your not going fast enough !!

The roll bar can be found , I did it once a few yrs ago ...I think it was some place in or near Danville,Pa. You will have to gut the interior first.  Went & looked   http://autoweldchassis.com/cp.ivnu I bought a nice roll bar for my 67 Dodge from them. Give them a call ..real nice guys & very helpful

I installed these in my 73..these are Fiero seats

I made 2 brackets like this to attach the seat belts

 Bracket attached to rear

Wow, that makes the rollbar look like a much bigger job than I imagined. Still determined to do it...
Thanks for the web site, I'll go take a look.
Cheers,

I thought I'd give a follow up on my roll bar project. I did find a DIY roll bar at the www.autoweld.com website suggested. I would up modifying it slightly so I could install it and still keep my fiberglass more or less intact. Here are several pictures of the project:

This is the 4-point roll bar before it goes off for sandblasting and powdercoat. I took the two back bars to a middle install point on the crossover frame rail that goes over the rear end, made a steel plate, and drilled 3 holes to bolt that piece on with 3 grade 8 bolts. The two front arms get welded to frame points behind the seats.

This is how the roll bar looked sitting in the car while I was fitting it.

The final product with the 5-point harnesses installed.

Cheers,
George
