I have several old friends that told me about this forum so I thought I would check it out. I already have a problem I need some assistance with. I have a 71 small block coupe, all original with factory air.I had my AC repaired recently and was told the "idle kick up" solenoid appeared not to be working. I thought it was the original part but perhaps it is not. It has a single wire running to the forward end of it (radiator side) and a little plunger in the rear (firewall side). It has a white label with red lettering. I believe the PN is 1111444 but not really sure. I actually donít know if it is the right part to begin with. I don't believe there are any vacuum line ports on the front of the solenoid. The RPM drops when the AC is turned on and it (the plunger) does not activate when the key is turned to the pre-start position. What is the source of power for the solenoid when the AC is activated? What is the source of power when the ignition key is turned on. I want to chase sparks and learn the troubleshooting procedures. I do have a 71 assembly manual and both GM chassis manuals. I guess I need to start reading. Any ideas or recommendations are greatly appreciated.

If required, where do the vacuum lines connect?
Where does the 12-volt wire tie into the electrical system?

You should have 12VDC at the Sol. connector any time the AC sw is in a position other than off. I beleive the 12 volts originates at the AC sw then goes to the LOW pesure sw then tee off to the Idle Sol. not sure of part # someone else will chime in with more info

On the '78 L82 I owned I had the same problem...bad solenoid. What you can do is go to a local Chevy dealer parts counter and they can look up the number. It will likely be NLA...No Longer Available...same problem I had.
Chevy dealers are all on a connected computer network and they can tell if any dealers nationwide might still have such an old part sitting on their shelves. Some larger and older dealers well might. You can get a printout of all dealers that have the art still in stock and you can call them about it.
For me, I found a dealer in the next state that had two of them. The parts manager wanted to get such dead merchandise out of his inventory and told me the solenoid had a retail of over $90...if I took both he'd sell them to me for $20 each just to get rid of them.
I bought both, installed one and sold the other on Ebay for more than they both cost me.
I'm not saying you'll have the luck I did, but it is a way of finding NLA parts that are genuine GM to boot.

I have one of those on my LT-1. It is not for the a/c. It is an
ant-dieseling solenoid. When you start the car it is energized and
when you turn the key off it is de-energized. I have converted mine to
be an a/c stop. I tapped into the wire that energizes the a/c
compressor and ran it to the solenoid. The original wire (tan) went
into the wiring harness near the wiper motor. Mine is on a Holley carb
(LT-1). Don't know what you have.
