Our 74 has all the controls for AC but when we opened the hood there was nothing! |headscratch| Apparently the last owner had removed all the AC components along with the heater core. We'd like to re-install AC preferably R-134 but have no idea where to find a complete AC package. Can anybody recommend a vendor for this?

Thanks,

Chris

HI there, have you considered putting a Vintage Air A/C system in your car? I did on my 79 and it is 1000 times better then stock, the whole evaporator fits under your stock dash, you won't have that ugly bulge inside the engine compartment etc...

I've never heard of them but I'm on their site right now. Thanks! I was going crazy trying to figure out where to get everything as a package. |laugh| |cheers|

Just my 2 cents.

I am a little late to the party but saw the question on HotRod Air.  I am redoing the interior on my 69 which has AC and was planning to just repair and convert the AC to 134A.  The AC kind of worked but had vac actuator issues and a slow freon leak.  I research HotRod Air along with others but order my Vintage Air yesterday.  HRA seems to have excellent customer service but if you look at  their installation manual you will see that you will need it.  You will need to call and request them to email it to you or I would be glad to send it to you.  The manual is incomplete to say the least only 15 pages.  The Vintage Air manual is very professional and the big difference in the systems are the HRA still uses vacuum for control of valves and dampers and the VA is servo controlled.

I am just going to store the factory unit incase I ever sell the car.  My car is very original so I want to protect the investment but prefer to be comfortable when I am out enjoying the car in this TX heat Smile

Just as a note, if you order original parts be carefull trying to replace the original hose from the compressor. I beleive I ordered one from Ecklers, it was designed for R134. When I went to install it ifound the hose would not bend whithout kinking. it was ok everywhere else except at the condenser by the radiator, it would not make the sharp bend needed to connect to the condenser.

I have a buddy that went with Vintage Air and is extremely pleased with the entire system, both customer support and performance. In a Vette, the Vintage Air seems to out perform the factory set up. Hope you keep us all informed on your AC project.

Scott
