I was reading in another forum, I know, spank me later, that part of what the ECM did along with my speedometer was "engage the torque converter coupling (TCC) and lock-up the converter (the lock-up provides a no-slip operation of the torque converter).
Now that i don't have the ECM, what, I'm lost here(again).

The ECM does indeed control the electrical signal to engage the lock-up converter clutch. All the trans needs for the LU to work is 12v, and a ground. The ECM provides the ground, in this case. You can move a couple of wires around on the internal trans harness and get LU working again, or you can use a toggle switch, or a vacuum switch. Or...you can just not worry about it. The LU function on a 350 trans really only provides a minimum improvement in fuel mileage, and even then only on long road trips. In normal, every day driving, the LU is basically useless.
