Just got home and saw two metal brackets hanging from the rear of my 78 Corvette.

They were both at rear tires and connect to a bar that simply pushes up and down.

Is this my rear sway bar?

I took off the two brackets that seemed to snapped off, how safe is this to drive until I have it fixed?

Thank you in advance.

They aren't stock sway bar brackets.  Is the sway bar connected to anything now besides the frame?

More pics of where they were located would be helpful.

If the sway bar is disconnected and not hanging down where it would interfere w/ anything, then it's safe to drive.
There will be more understeer now.

Definitely not stock stuff there. They are brackets for the rear stabilizer bar. I would suggest either removing the bar completely, or tie it up out of the way until you can remove it. If it moves forward under braking it could possibly get hung up in the suspension back there.

73shark is correct, as long as the bar itself  is not interfering with anything moving, it should be safe to drive. A lot of c3's did not have rear sway bars so nothing to get overly concerned with. However, you might want to look at where the brackets you found hanging where bolted onto the trailing arm, just to make sure they didn't "rip out' where they were bolted on.  Chances are they didn't, but doesn't hurt to take a look.  This is a "stock picture" of how the stock sway bar mounts are mounted and located

just at the rear of the trailing arm.
