This is just a lets see what others are or have done with their transmissions. I am wondering about a few things. 1st, how many others have changed to overdrive transmissions. 2nd, how many have gone to a different shifter and what did you put in. 3rd, Have any put an aluminum pan on or just used the stock metal pan. 4th, are you using a temp gauge and where did you mount it. 5th, how many are using an adjustable switch for your lockup?

Several years ago I wanted to install a Keisler 5-speed in place of the M21 in my car...the 4.11 gears run a lot of rpm's even at moderate speeds. I knew the swap would never pay for itself long-term as the car doesn't get driven that much, but I wanted to save engine wear and tear.
I was at Corvettes at Carlisle and Keisler had a booth set up there and after talking to them put down a deposit for one of their units. Unfortunately a few weeks later I ended up in the hospital for a week and not knowing how much it was going to cost me I decided to cancel the order with Keisler. Financially that was the right thing to do.
I still think about making the swap but have not acted on it. I think about selling the car on occasion as well so as long as I have those thoughts I won't put the 5-speed in it. An acquaintance has a late model Callaway he wants to replace with a new ZR-1...I keep dreaming about selling my '69 and buying his Callaway if that happens.

I too though about going from a 4 spd to a 5 spd. But I am lucky to put 3000 mi on the vette in the summer. So it is hard to justify spending the money. I am now leaning more towards buying a used C6 when my kids get done with college.

You shouldn't need a temp gauge or a cooler..but if you go with a cooler get one that looks like a radiator ..the tube style don't do much but are cheaper..the lockup can be controlled with a wiring setup from B&M or such..not hard to put in..the pan is nice to have of you want it but not really needed either..
Rich, I have to run the temp gauge at first becuase of the warranty. I actually have to give them temp readings once I get it out on the road. Then it could be removed. However, if there is a good mounting place I would consider keeping it as a permanent fixture because it cant hurt having it. But at this point its just going to be hanging there. I am going to check tonight what size the gauge is and may decide to put it in the clock position if it would fit. Who needs a clock! But i doubt if that will work. Hopefully with the new Dewitts radiator I won't need an additional cooler. Sounds as though everyone went back in with the stock shifter and thats not a problem as an aftermarket wont fit up without doing some customized work. As for the switch for the lock up the pricing between B & M and Bowties is about the same. I have only driven it once when I got the exhaust put on it and it locked up around 40 MPH which with 3:08 gears was way to soon. Changing to the 3:55 should help but i will still probably put something on to set where I want it to lock. Thanks guys for all your comments so far, Rodney
Rebuilt 700r4 installed 1 1/2 yrs ago (local shop) - best thing we ever did! Kept old shifter, no cooler, no temp gauge, adjustable lock up in glove box (doesn't take up much space). Only issue was kid there over tightened pan bolts & then we took it in for 500 mi adjustment - leaked like a mother at pan when we got it back. So we bought a chrome plated cast aluminum pan (found a standard depth one from a camaro parts dealer on ebay - deep was too low, I agree with Paul) fixed the problem. Clean as can be down there now
