What is the best way to remove the windshield wiper switch
without bending the bracket to where it is useless?Should I remove the dash or remove the
speedo and tach cluster to gain access to the bracket holding the switch?
Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of it's life, My wife purchased it for me for fathers day in 2007 from her girl friend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
That is a hard one to answer. I would not attempt to remove the dash unless it has been replaced already once. If it is anyway brittle it will crack. I have had mine in and out but it is only a couple of years old and I can do it easy enough. So that leaves the tach and speedo gage. It has a push lock kind of think on it. I know because I broke mine and it is now hot glued inplace.
WIPER-WASHER SWITCH Replacement 1. Disconnect battery ground cable. 2. Remove left AIC air distribution duct. 3. Remove I.P. to instrument cluster attaching screws and pull cluster rearward for access. 4. Disconnect speedometer cable and electrical connector from cluster and remove cluster. 5. Remove two (2) I.P. to left door pillar attaching screws and pull left side of I.P. slightly rearward for access. 6. Remove wiper switch to mounting plate screws. 7. Remove switch from panel. 8. Disconnect electrical connector. 9. To install new switch, reverse procedure. 10. Connect battery and check operation wiper-washer control.
I have also emailed you the diagram that shows the angle of the mounting machine screw.
