Howdy,

I have a 1969 427 without power steering.  My question is, can the oil pan be removed with the engine in the car?

A big block without power steering has got to be a workout machine. I drove my friend's '66 big block a few times and it was a handful at very low speeds. It's a good question, I know on the small block you can but you have to drop the power steering down without disconnecting it. Not sure about the big block.

Hello

Thanks for response. The steering IS a bear!  Also, the car did not come with power brakes either! either!

Hello,

Thanks for the quick reply.  I will drop the starter, that needs rebuilt anyway, then get to the pan bolts.

I have just had the oil pan gaskets and rear main replaced on my 69 427 and you just drop the steering linkage. I got this done for about 3.5 hours of labour at my local mechanic.

Many mechanics actually wanted to take the engine out and wanted about 3.5 days of labour to do it!
