Hey all..just thought I would throw this out there...I went to clean up my plugs last night and found that one of my boots is rotted..so I put electrical tape on it and left the shield off...this means I need new wires...I like paragons and lectric limited both carry the date coded correct wires..but does anyone use or know of another company that makes them also?? I want stock..just want to make sure I'm getting the best ones!!

AFAIK, Lectric Limited is the ONLY place that makes the correct, dated wires. The wires you order from Paragon will come from Lectric Limited...mine were even drop-shipped from them. They will also come with an instruction sheet, with measurements, to tell which wires go in which location in the looms, and to which sparkleplug.
I've had mine on the '74 since '98, and haven't had a bit of problem, or any issue with them. I did have the engine/trans out at the time(for detailing), so installing the wires wuz much easier!LOL

That's what I figured...I got no issues in replacing the wires...just love the fact that I put the air pipes on a few years ago but will do it from under no problem..it will give me a chance to clean the shields off good..maybe do the leaking valve covers too..thanks!! Might do some pics on this for fun!

So...I got my new wires today from lectric limited and popped in 6 of them in about 45 minutes...that leaves the passenger front 2 left...not sure if I have to remove the starter or not but I had fun with it..these wires are great btw...the writing is very clear and it's date code is just right...I got the 3rd quarter 69 date code...lectric has them listed for a 70 but I needed the later build code for my December built car...this kind of stuff is fun!! Now I need to get my balancer, clutch fan and wiper motor redone and I'll be a happy guy as far as the original parts go...my clutch is going to happen before any of those though!!..can't wait to get the other 2 in and get it gassed up and tuned with the new fire!! Got a show in Bel Air I'm going to Sunday!!

Well...couldn't sleep this morning knowing the car was up on jacks so I got up and got the other 2 wires in..did have to drop the starter down which wasn't a big deal at all..I used my scissor jack to lift up the motor...really worked good.I jacked up on the bottom of the trans bell housing..really not a bad job...can't believe the motor mounts are still good..now it's time to set timing idle and points dwell...it already runs way better..gonna try and get it to run on the 93 octane and not the Turbo blue...it would be nice to go more then 200 miles without worrying about where to get gas...have a bunch of shows and meets this summer and plan on going to all!! I'll let you know how the tune goes and what I find...I think the intake gaskets might be leaking a little...I'll see what the vacuum gauge says!!

Good to see you're getting it all together, Rich! Does this mean you OTHER issues are settled? Hope to see you at some of the shows!

Well Barry...nope!! That's a whole other story!! I did drive down to the show today and it ran like poop!!!! No idle and popped oil smelling smoke out the carb when it shut off...so the intake gaskets are on the menu for tonight...I can make it home as long as I keep it revved up a little now that I know how to keep it moving...gonna stop and get some oil for the ride home....hopefully without a roll back..ugh!!

As long as you make it home! I'm sure you'll get it together! Were you having problems previously? I t seemed to be running fine the last time I saw it. Good luck!

I am iron man!! It was a nail biter on the way...nah not really...I've suspected the gaskets since I got the car since it burned oil...I adjusted the idle mix to get a smooth idle..well that adjustment is gone as of last week...was hoping the wires would be the only problem...the vacuum gauge won't pull more than 12 inches...I gotta think that I'm doing pretty good on car troubles...I still only have one ride on a roll back..the wheel bearing explosion...the oh s$#t moment... I'll make it back home today and start throwing intake gaskets in...and yes it did run good...it'll run smooth when I'm done!

I made it home....yes it ran terrible! Oh well...I got the intake and valve cover gasket sets...I wanted new spark plugs but they didn't have them...I'll change them out too..probably oil fouled..I'll post up some pics when I get it apart and together...oh..it burned almost a quart of oil in the 60 miles on the way back...holy oil monster!!

I'm just glad I don't have cats...really it killed 2 cylinders randomly between the 2...could smell the oil but it didn't blow smoke all that much...would have been really bad if it did smoke!!

Well I got the intake back on and polished the valve covers..had to drill out one hole since someone decided to leave half a bolt in there...had one oh s$&& moment when I started to tap out all the holes for the intake...the tap snapped off...luckily I was on the way out and a few taps with a screw driver and hammer it came right out...sad thing is this tap is probably 15 years old and never used...I guess that's where the name Snap on came from...I'll give him heck on Friday when I see him next!!..my only wait is on carb gaskets..still can't believe no one stocked those around here..I'll have them in the morning..then fire time!!
