Since I last made any real progress on the car I built an addition on my house, remodeled most of the original part of it. The reno included rewiring, re-plumbing, upgrading insulation, all new windows and doors, re-designed and re-ducted the HVAC.

I started a side business that has taken off.  I still have my day job that is a never ending consumer of time and energy.  My oldest started college, my wife went back to college a few years and just finished (and re-entered job market with new career).  My middle daughter is now a junior in HS and my youngest moved to private school and skipped a grade.

I am finally at the point that I have more money than time and I am paying someome to get the body work done.  My brother-in-law that was helping me disappeared into the bottom of a prescription bottle 2 years ago and is soon to no longer be a brother-in-law.

anyway..  as a cost saving measure I said I would strip the paint.  That is the last step before dropping it off.

that's awesome that your back at it, I have followed quite a bit of your restore, guess I'm gonna have to set up some kind of photo bucket because I can never load pictures on this site that's why there is none on my restore thread.

You tryin to bury that Ford, Ben?  LOL LOL LOL

Car is coming along nicely. Any plans on finishing it this year, or is there just too much other stuff to do? I know you've been working on that thing on/off for years. I'm almost as excited about you finishing it as YOU are! Thumbs Up Clap

best part. the neighbors yard i got it stuck in...  I hadnt met him.  the neighbors on either side got permission to dig a french drain across the back on his property and i was doing them a favor for a couple of minutes. it took me five minutes to get in that hole and 2.5 hours to get out.  it was the wettest summer anyone around here can remember and i never did get a chance to get the trenching done.

I'm sorry I'm coming in late in the conversation. But are you using paint remover? I can see your doing a great job.

Iirc, the underside of the hood, and top compartment were painted body color, then they had a blackout procedure, leaving just the edges of the hood and compartment with some body color. The flaps on the vents should be a semi-gloss(satin) black....

The undersides of both pieces were painted body color. The HOOD got a blackout treatment, but it was sloppy, so body color still shows in areas...like this one...
Since it was getting a blackout paint, the center area of the hood dint have a lot of body color sprayed on to it, but the edges were full color. They would then use a "mask" to spray the black. The mask pretty much amounted to a piece of cardboard held up along the outside edge of the hood....it was not taped off.

The underside of the deck lid is body color, but I have seen them with blackout paint, too....it might have to do with what color the body is as to whether or not it was blacked out. I can't say for sure. I am sure about the hood, tho.
Maybe someone here has an NCRS Judging Guide that can look and see about the deck lid paint.

Nothing definitive on a '69, but my '73-4 Judging Guide says the underside of the deck lid is painted body color, but not as nice as the top-side. No blackout applied at all on it. Also says the latches are painted body color, but not the cable. If that helps. Big smile

That looks looks like a Steeroids kit Ben. Was that in the car before the tear down? I love the set up - one of the best mods I've done.Thumbs Up

it is a steeroids kit.  I added it during the rebuild.  In fact I organized a group purchase for 10 of us right here on c3vr about 10 years ago :-)

I kept my original steering system but changed this over during the chassis build.

it is going to take a little longer.  Originally the body shop said they would be ready in mid february but he asked me to plan for march 2nd due to a few other projects taking longer than expected.  they only do restorations so i dint have to worry about insurance jobs gumming up the works.

Crazy how life always takes time/money away from the toys you want to play with the most!

Paint jail is it's own monster...I almost have to add 50% more time than I am quoted

Glad your projects are all coming together!

I have 2 different wiper switch / vaccum override brackets.
one is from a 68 and the other from a 69.
can you tell me which is which? also should the knob be solid black or black with chrome?

I do not know the answer, but just going by the two different brackets, I would say the one in FRONT is for the '68. You'll notice the one in front has only two holes in it to bolt it to the lower dash, and the one in the rear has two bolt holes, and two other holes I believe are to line up the trim panel. '68s withOUT A/C, and all EARLY '68 cars had the over-ride panel mounted farther to the passenger side, closer to the center of the car than the later cars, so the bracket is different on them.

I can't say I've ever noticed a wiper switch with the shiny center, but looking in the parts books shows that they DID have them. I would venture a guess that the solid black knob is for the early '68 car you have the bracket for. That's my story, and I'm stickin wid it...LOL  Thumbs Up

Thanks...

That was my thought as well.

Does anyone have a 69 (even better if it is a late 69) to check their bracket?

Thanks Joel.  That is perfect.
I need to move the switch and the best valves to the other bracket and use the chrome topped knob.

The color is black cherry pearl.  I wanted something that was not a complete departure from the factory burgundy but with some style.

Well, You certainly attained that! I can't wait to see it all together! THEN I want to see it in person! You really have done an excellent job on this project, hanging in there when many people would have thrown in the towel!

Barry

Cool

I hated those lights. It being such a junker is the only way I could afford it at that point on my life.

I have a few detail questions.  Does anyone know if the neutral safety switch on an M-21 is normally open or normally closed?

my tko-600 is normally open and closed in neutral.  i am trying to figure out if I need to flip this.

can anyone send me pictures of the proper mounting of the headlight washers?

to me it looks like it only squirts on the low beam but I really dont know how far "over" and how far in from the front lip to drill the holes.
