Otay, ya'll...the newest addition to the C3VR "Research" section has been completed. We have added the "C3 Corvette Build Dates" to the information available here, so if you're trying to determine the "Birthday" of your '68-'82, Corvette, just go to the "Research" button at the tops of the pages, and click on the "C3 Corvette Build Dates" button. How simple is that!

Enjoy!!!Big smile

Well, easier said than done. Am I just dense, or what? I went to the L81 Registry site and didn't find it. And even with this new info I'm still in the dark Confused. If I may,... this is how my trim tag looks exactly;

8  08C   105622

L81   39L   39U    E

CHEVROLET

Would anyone be so kind as to help me understand this. It doesn't quite match the example given.

Take another look at your tag there, Jimmy....you shure it's not B 08??(Aug. '81)

Also, if you still have the blue certification sticker on the door, it will give the month/year of assembly...if it's still readable.

Yes Joel,Embarrassed that was infact a     "B  08C",  I seem to get conflicting info on this thing. The door sticker clearly says 09/81 and my vin #1G1AY8763B5105622 (if I'm reading it right) claims it's a Bowling Green car and I guess the exact day it was assembled is not possible to determine Confused........Unhappy Wait 'til I talk to that Rootbeer lady for gettin me started Wacko, she's soooo concerned with everybodies birthday

VIN 05622 would have been built(completed) in Sept, '81. I can check on that and get the exact date...as soon as I find my Birthday Book.
The car could have had the trim tag installed, and then either sat on the line for a holiday/week-end, parts shortage, or it may have had to go back thru the body shop for paint issues. This would explain the two different months on the door, and the trim tag. The trim tag is installed BEFORE the paint, and the door sticker is applied on final assembly.
Put it this way...the car was painted the 3rd week in Aug. B08=Aug. The "C" represents the week of the month, A = 1st week, B = 2nd week, etc.
Your car just took longer to complete for some reason. Perhaps they wanted to make sure it was perfect, since they knew you would own it someday...

OK, Stop it. Your makin' me misty here (I get that way alot these days). Joel, I'm sorry. I never meant for any one to sacrifice any large portion of their life to attain this kind of info for me, you work too hard in our behalf already, but thank you very much for all your efforts. There is obviously a trick to this known by only a special few (technical education I'm sure). I'd like to save any favors you might grant me in the future for more important stuff, like,... my tranny transplant Big smile (coming soon, to a theater near you) Clap.

Just doin me job, Jimmy...just doin me job...
I'm trying to get the info set up so it is easier to understand, and will add whatever explanations needed to make it that way.

I enjoy stuff like this...keeps me off the streets...

Your car was built Sept 10th, '81.

JOEL.....

Where did you get this BIRTHDAY book.... ??????

I can find the last Vin produced in any month from 1961 thru 1972 model years BUT I can not find
this info for any other model years....

I assume your birthday book has this info.... and My Bookshelf would like a copy of that book...

Knowing they prduced X number of  corvettes in August  and looking at the calander you can determine how many days they actually worked so you can come darn close to figuring out when car #xxx903 was actually made...

I just can not find the figures for after 1972....

Thanks for the info..My 78 Silver Anniversary has the B07 stamping on the metal tag upper driver's side body door jamb.
That puts the build date as October 1977.
Car was invoiced to the Oregon dealer in March 3rd of 1978, delivered March 10th..
The dealer is Guaranty Chevrolet, a family owned dealership which is still in business in Junction City Oregon.
Much of the small fun stuff about the old Corvettes is their histories..:)Jim

From an October build date to March delivery date to the dealer is a looong time. Silver Anny cars were quite popular, too, so I wonder what happened? Is it possible another dealer took original delivery, it sat on the showroom floor for a while, then they assigned it to the other dealer? THings that make ya go....hmmmmmm...Ermm

On the L-88 on ebay, the general consensus amongst the eggsperts is that it is NOT original, or it has been "massaged"....too many discrepancies.

Adam,
Hard to tell about your "what if."on the lag between final assembly at the St Louis plant in October to the delivery to the Oregon dealer in Mrach 1978..
I can't recall what the weather was like in the 1977-winter..:) or early 1978..:)

My car has the Gymkhana  suspension package..which from what I can tell denotes fewer than 13,000 of my particular Silver Anniversary corvette were made ..It has the L48 engine and automatic THM350 tranny.
Less than 13,000 cars doesn't seem like very many when one considers all the GM dealers operating back then..Jim
