Hey Jason, I'm (slowly) working on a '75 I rescued, 10 yrs. neglected, from a field storage (parked under a tree and tarped for the last 3 yrs.) that looked a lot like that. 1/2" deep in rodent tirds, spider webs  so thick it was a tug-a-war to open the door and a rabbit living under the hood who ate most of the wiring including the main harness going through the firewall. I stripped out the interior and cleaned everything down with Windex. Removed rust where I could and repainted with Rustoleum. Washed the vinyl and repainted where needed. Money is scarce so I'm just trying to get it road worthy. My efforts didn't completely get rid of the smell but at least now it seems to be fading with time. I've never had the money to completely restore a car, I just do the best I can to make 'em roadworthy, safe and as pretty as I can afford. I've got it running well but it needs front and rear bumpers and fiberglass work and paint, so it might be a while yet before I have to worry about registration and insurance. Good luck and keep us posted on your adventure.

I would use a few drop of bleach in a bucket of water.  Not too much bleach or your could burn your hands and maybe discolor any thing it touches.  As some one else posted, windex has ammonia in it, so that too may be enough to kill the germs.

My 2 cents worth...usually when I offer my 2 cents worth, I get change back!

Fabreeze works really well on fabrics for the smell, once you get it clean. Bleach might be a bit strong, as will ammonia, but either will get it all clean. A citrus-based cleaner will work well, also. Lysol will disinfect it, if you want to go that route.

btyw...my earlier comment was more about the Billy-Bob Bubbu Joe repairs on the dash...LOL

Joel,
The main reason I suggested a few drops of bleach is because about 7 years ago, when we still owned the first NEW motor home that we had bought, it had sat for 3 years unused.  We took it into an RV repair place and asked them to go through it with a fine tooth comb, because we had seen droppings.  When they pulled out the oven, they found a rather large rodent nest with lots of droppingsDead.  At that point they backed out.  They put on a mask, rubber gloves and used a very mild bleach solution. They told me, that in their experience, bleach (and you need a only about 1/2  teaspoon for a gallon of water) was the best for killing an potential diease that the rodents may have had and left behind in the feces.  I have not done any scientific studies on bleach vs. windex vs. pinesol. All I am going with is what these people told me.  You may well be right (you usually are right...dad-gumm it), that pinesol would kill any germs too (and smell a WHOLE) lot better, at least they advertise that they do kill germs. AND, of course, keep the bleach solution off of any material, only metal parts!

We have a different motor home now, and in the hold with the water hose, I have a squirty bottle with a few drops of bleach and water in it.  When I hook up in a campground, I spray the hose bib threads AND inside the threads on my own hose, even though I have a whole coach water filter.
David
