I have no idea how hot my '68 roadster will get inside in the summer ask I bought it about 2 months ago, but I was wondering, has anyone any suggestions or experience with installing heat and sound insulation?

I prefer a pre-cut kit, which takes all the measuring and guess work out of the equations.  I ran across a C-3 kit from VetteNuts.net for $165.

Again I prefer the pre-cut kit for a C3...........any recommendation or cautions will be appreciated.

That sounds very cheap for the whole kit.  I'd be very wary of the quality.

You really can't go wrong with Dynamat, or something similar.  I cut and installed mine in an evening.  Just coat the floorboards with a good rubber cement, lay the mat down, and trim.  Cover the seams with HVAC foil tape.

If I could ever find the time to finish the damned car, I'd tell you how well it works...

Dyoes, we have a lot in common!  I did the Dynamat thing too but the car is still up on jacks.

I can say that I've used the precut insulation on another Vette and now wish I had layed down Dynamat first.  Dynamat doesn't work unless it's applied directly to the metal/glass surface.
Another thing I did was add some "Zero Clearance" insulation underneath the floor to stop the heat at the source.  If I knew how to add photos to this site I would.

John

Haven't been here for a long time.  I went to Lowes and bought a foil-backed adhesive foam.  Inexpensive and worked well.  Don't remember the brand, sorry.

Lizard Skin for sound applied first then Lizard Skin for insulation second. If you want to get crazy do inside and out and use Dynamat .

I've had a running joke that the car was a 9-month project that is now in year three.  But after looking at the calendar again, I've realized it's year four...  Confused

Got the car off of jackstands a few months ago, and was determined that it wasn't going back up.  Except for that transmission leak... And now that "wump wump" from the drivetrain when it's pushed.  Arrgh!

Anyway, here's a shot of the interior right after I laid the insulation.  Failed to mention that you can also buy carpet with some insulation built in.

We are about to replace carpet in Dad's '69 427 roadster and are going to insulate that one as well.  That car is HOT to drive... even with side pipes.  I'll post some pics when we get to it.

Foil backed insulation from a roll, all seams sealed with reinforced aluminuminum foil tape. 3M spray adhesive to hold it all down nice and snug. Thumbs Up

It may be called "Reflectix", and I found it at my local hardware store.

Not sure Gary....Dwain(longhorn296) bought it for his '72....I just installed it for him while I was doing some other stuff. I think he got it from Home Depot, or something like that, but I ain't really sure. Maybe he'll see this and say where it came from. Smile

I did as Larry, I used Lizard skin. I absolutely loved it, very easy to work with and the final results are very impressive. 2 gal bucket did the whole inside of car all the way back to the tail lights.

I am getting ready to install new seats and carpet in my '74 coupe.  Thinking about the combination carpet/insulation at MidAm.  Lizard skin sounds like a good alternative.  How thick is the coverage from a 2 gallon bucket?

Thanks,

Ray

Lizard Skin wants two coats. The two gallon bucket got me through three coats for the entire inside compartment, plus I did the firewall and undercarriage with two+ coats (I wanted to use it all up because it'll just go bad in the can). I even did the inner fenders. It cures pretty thick like undercoating.
