I have not sold my 73 yet and the 72 is having some work done so my friend and I went for a long drive up to lake Texhoma and back Sunday in the 73. I live north of Dallas and it was a perfect 70 degree sunny day. Well my friend got a new C6 at Christmas time that he drives when he is not out of town. He suggested that we take the 73 and I warned him it did not have all the comfort of his new car but he wanted to take it anyway.

Here is where the upset part starts. Every stoplight and about every 5th car or truck we passed on our journey either gave us a approving nod or actually rolled down there window to give us a thumbs up or share nice comments. Even the motorcyles we passed or the ones that passed us gave us approving jesters. This made me feel good, even though just driving on a nice day fells good in any performance oriented car. Man was he upset he spent big bucks for his state of the art car and had never received the kind of approval rating that we were getting in mine on Sunday.

Now don't get me wrong if I could afford a new Corvette I would have one, however it feels nice to see how many folks appreciate the survivors still around. I just wish my teenagers felt the same way about their elders. I guess that will come with time.

Thanks for letting me share and keep on driving them so others can re-live their good times when they see you out there.

Robert

Most all (prob about 98%) of C5 and 6 owners out here don't even look twice at my Vette. I gave up on them. Some times I think they don't even know an early Vette when they see one. I see the same cars regularly, but they never have even looked at mine when sitting next to them at a stop lite. The people from Lake Tahoe and Incline Village (Income village we call it) are the worst, they think thier stuff don't stink. I was at my buddies shop and a customer of his comes in that has a C5, when I told him I had a C3 he just looked at me an walked away.

I have always said that there are 2 kinds of Vette owners,  Status seekers and true Vette lovers.  Obvious which kind live in Income Village, same as out here in Moneyetta (Murrietta), who dont want me in the Vette club 'cause of the mod's on my red Vette (not that anything was said)

Seems like someone's telling you to keep it.

Guys.......this is a warning.....I'm a very serious....."Vette Head." ALL Vettes are a work of art.

Had a similar situation, while having resto work done on my '68, a guy with a C5 made the comment that "Why would anybody want to spend hard earned money on an old piece of junk, when you could have newer Vette for less money and headache." My mechanic turned to him and said, "Yeah, but whe you put your car up for sale you will be lucky to gt .40 cent on the dollar and his '68 is increasing in value everyday!" I just smiled at him, gave him the WAVE and walked off into the sunset chuckling!!

HOHOHO ! remember guys that there MUST be people buying new stuff now so that our grandchildren over 30 years can buy these as "oldtimers" . Our C3's will be than in musea as "tresors"  and only seen on the road by some fortunate ones with havy insurances....!

Gotta love it, though......it's hysterical seeing the jealousy. The gawking and finger-pointing directed at our Vettes has got to get under their skin.

Yeah a friend of mine said this and he was right " You could have a parking lot of new vettes with 10 old vettes in it. People will glance at the new ones but then stop to look at the old ones." I know this to be true as I digress backin time with the vettes I've owned. Still hoping to one day have that 67 big block, marina blue, white on white with a white stinger hood car. Maybe someday........

Let's face it, the C3 style is classic Corvette and will always be popular.
And you can't beat the value, which continues to go UP

There is an odd twist to consider.  When I was working in the Chevrolet dealer in the 70s and early 80s the Corvette owners who were buying brand new C3s acted just like the C5 buyers do today.

I suspect that many years from now the C5 owners will be more like us, and the newest version owners will follow on the snobby tradition.

Ken... ..Just got a C5. But I promise I'm not like that. Nothin' could take the place of my C3.

JUST TO CONFIRM WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT---ONE FRIDAY AFTERNOON DRIVING HOME ON I-95 MINDING MY OWN BUISNESS, DOING ABOUT 78 MPH IN A 55 ZONE, I FELT SOMEONE PACING ME. I LOOKED TO MY LEFT AND THERE WAS A RI STATE TROOPER.  HE ROLLED DOWN HIS WINDOW--GAVE ME A THUMBS UP AND KEPT ON GOING.  SATURDAY AM I WAS BUYING A COFFEE AT A LOCAL DRIVE THRU WHEN THE LANDSCAPING CREW--ALL WOMEN IN THEIR 30'S--COMPLIMENTED MY VETTE.  SUNDAY AM, LEAVING A RESTAURANT, I STOPPED TO LET A VERY WELL DRESSED WOMAN IN HER 89'S WALK IN FRONT OF MY CAR AN SHE LOOKED AT MY WIFE AND I AND SAID "WHAT A BEAUTIFUL CAR".  AND OF COARSE ALL THE LITTLE KIDS IN THE NEIBORHOOD LOVE IT.   ANYWAY-- ALL AGES LOVE THE C3 VETTES.  CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS SUMMER.

It's Okay Micki,  You are a C3 owner who just happens to also own a C5.  Which is a very good thing.   You are not just a C5 owner.  The difference is clear.

I have to agree, very good color, even if it's not red

It is a very sharp looking C3.
