NCM Staff Join One Acre Club

For just over a year the National Corvette Museum has offered a unique sponsorship opportunity for those wanting to play a role in helping to build the Motorsports Park.  By participating in the “One Acre Club,” individuals, groups, clubs and businesses can help raise funding for the project, one acre at a time.

At the May National Corvette Museum staff meeting, development assistant Virginia Crump brought an idea to the group.  She proposed the staff coming together to purchase an acre.

“During the Winner’s Circle celebration dinner, I was so impressed with Doug Fehan’s talk. The group of donors he was speaking to have a powerful influence on others, which if that power was utilized, could have an enormous impact on the reality of the Motorsports Park,” Virginia said.  “Then, when individuals started coming forward to make their one-acre commitments, I felt like we as an employee group could make a powerful statement to others by buying an acre!”

Virginia proposed at the staff meeting that individuals could sign up for payroll deductions, spread out over a period of time, or make a one-time donation.  Staff members felt this was a great idea and signed up to commit.  At the June staff meeting Virginia announced that we were just shy of the $15,000 mark so some staff stepped up and agreed to pitch in more – bringing the total to $15,000.

“I’m so thrilled that we DID IT!” Virginia added.  A total of 34 staff members stepped up to the plate to become a part of the “One Acre Club.”

Currently the “One Acre Club” Campaign has a total of 27 full acres committed, 2 half acres and 8 quarter acres. The “One Acre Club” promotion ends December 31, 2011. Corvette Racing Wins at Le Mans

After dominating the GT1 class with six wins in eight years, the Pratt & Miller GTEpro Corvettes took on Ferrari, Porsche, and BMWs to win the top spot in the greatest race on earth, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The # 74 Corvette driven by the team of Oliver Gavin, Jan Magnussen and Richard Westbrook, was in the front of the pack for most of the first 17 hours of this race, but contact with a Porsche ended its chances with Jan at the wheel. Newcomer, Tommy Milner, took on the challenge in the #73 car and fought his way from a lap behind to take the lead from the #51 Ferrari. Milner continued to put distance between himself and the Ferrari until eventually turning the wheel over to Antonio Garcia to take the win.

"If I were to write a script to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Chevrolet and the 10th anniversary of Corvette Racing's first win at Le Mans, this would undoubtedly be it," said Corvette Racing program manager Doug Fehan.

The NCM events department has two exciting trips planned that are coming up soon, but you can still get in on them!

August 17-18 is the Hendrick Motorsports trip. This visit to the Charlotte, NC area will take you behind the scenes not only at NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick's complex and team garages, but also to Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s garages, and Charlotte Motor Speedway. Like all NCM trips, this one gets you VIP access that no one else can offer. Learn more here.

September 25-30 takes us on a scenic trip down the California coast. Visit the famed Hearst Castle, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Vision Quest Ranch, Carmel, China Beach and so much more! While this event is titled R8C/Xperience Reunion, you do not have to be a participant of those programs to attend. There will also be a caravan from the east coast out to the west coast for those traveling that direction. Learn more here.

Can't make the drive to North Carolina or California? Consider flying out and renting a car! Metal cars are always welcome, they just have to travel at the back of the pack!
