Tom Blair Joins One Acre Club

Tom Blair is no stranger to the NCM Motorsports Park project. After attending a Museum HPDE, Tom became so enthusiastic about the possibility of having our own place for driver's education that he came on board, helping the Museum further develop sponsorship proposals and coming up with the idea for a One Acre Club.

“I am so pleased to see how enthusiasm and support for the NCM Motorsports Park is building," Tom said. "Although the demands on my time have regulated my involvement to more of a behind the scenes role, I recently bought an acre to show my continued commitment to this worthwhile project. Like you, I’m looking forward to opening day when we can take our victory laps to celebrate our personal contribution to the legacy of Corvette.”

Tom's dedication to the project has helped push us to get to where we are today. We sincerely thank him not only for sponsoring an acre, but for his support for the past several years.

Wildfire Claims Two Corvettes, See How NCM Insurance Handled It

In April a great friend of the National Corvette Museum and a customer of the NCM Insurance Agency received a call as he came out to the NCM for the C5/C6 Bash that he will not forget anytime soon.  He was told that a wildfire started near his house and destroyed some of his prized possessions.

We caught up with Holt when he returned to the Corvette Museum for the 17th Annual Labor Day Celebration, and he wanted to share with everyone how pleased he was with his experience with Adam and the NCM Insurance Agency.

The NCM Insurance Agency proudly writes Collector Car Insurance through AMIG or American Modern Insurance Group on an Agreed Value policy. To have the same great coverage as Holt, request a quote at www.ncminsurance.com or give us a call at 877.678.7626. To see the video of Holt and his experience click here.

Corvette Store Feature: Flint Brick Sale

Now through October 16 is your chance to purchase a piece of Corvette history at more than 50% off! For a limited time you can purchase the "Flint Bricks" for $10 each, or 3 for $25.

These unique bricks are offered with an engraved sequence numbered plate and certificate of authenticity. The certificate of authenticity is signed by former Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant General Manager Wil Cooksey, Jr. and National Corvette Museum Executive Director Wendell Strode. Unfortunately we are not able to pull specific brick numbers. Buy online here!

If you are interested in bulk, uncleaned Flint bricks without the plaque, we have them available at greatly reduced rates. They are perfect for that special building project, sidewalk, garden, etc. Contact Bob Hellmann at 270-467-8825 or email him at bob@corvettemuseum.org.

Hall of Famer Betty Skelton Passes

Corvette Hall of Fame inductee Betty Skelton Erde lived in the fast lane most of her life, setting speed records both on the ground and in the air. A resident of The Villages, FL, she earned the nickname "First Lady of Firsts", setting many records and being the first female test driver in the auto industry.

Betty was inducted into the Corvette Hall of Fame in 2001, and passed away at the age of 85 at her home on August 31.

George Sipprell Joins NCM Board

George Sipprell of Branford, CT was elected to the NCM Board of Directors on Saturday, September 3 during the Museum's quarterly board meeting. George is a family member of the Museum and serves as NCM Ambassador at large for Connecticut and achieved Master Ambassador status this year.

George not only volunteers at Museum events, but also served as the 2009 Caravan Leader for CT.

George takes the seat previously held by Abbie Miller, who resigned recently due to personal commitments.

New Solar Charging Station at GM Plant

In June, General Motors commissioned the first of many solar charging stations for the Chevy Volt at the Corvette Assembly Plant. Energy not utilized to charge the Volt will be fed into the plant and be utilized by production equipment.

The solar station is anticipated to generate more than 30,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. The station is free for electric car owners to utilize.

If you'd like to check out a 2012 Chevy Volt, drive across the street and visit our special exhibit, 100 Years of Chevrolet, where we have one on loan from GM!
