Again issues with the wife's 2002 Volvo S60 (non-turbo).
She reporting that the fan blower works only intermittently.  I could not get it to work at all tonight.  The fan speed is controlled by an analog knob. Also, the A/C switch (which has it's own electronic push-button on/off switch) seems to be turning itself on and off at random times.

I already checked the fan motor fuse which is fine.  (Of course, it should be if it works occasionally.)

I'm thinking it could be loose connection to the fan motor, a bad fan motor, or a bad Climate Control Module, which, from what I can tell, means replacing the entire dashboard control panel.

Any thoughts on this stuff?

Thanks!

Adam, take it in to a shop that can scan it for HVAC codes.....see what pops up, and go from there.
Yer prolly on the right track thinking it's the module, but it could certainly be a loose/corroded connection somewhere.

Would it have codes even if no indicators are showing on the dash? Is Autozone or Advanced capable of doing a proper code scan?

Also, the current climate control looks like this.  Could I replace it with this?

Yes..it could
No
Afaik...no.

Autozone et al can only scan for OBDII codes(emissions related). Plus, being a Sveedish car, the HVAC system may require a specific protocol for diagnostics. I can look once I get to the shop, and see what might be up with it.
Replacing the dash module with a newer, or different type module will most likely not work. The CAN(communication area network)communication between the four thousand(slight exaggeration)  different modules on the car has to be right....changing to a different type module prolly will disrupt that. HVAC is not my field, so anything is possible.
You might only need the fan switch, might be a relay going goofy, or any one of many other possibilities.

Adam, the HVAC codes can only be accessed by a capable scanner. The module is the control panel itself....easy enough to swap, I s'pose. Since you say the A/C seems to also have a mind of it's own, I'd be suspecting a problem with the CCM, as you are. The CCM will need programing to get all the doors, fan, and temps to work properly, according to Alldata.....

There is also a fan control module....a little harder to get to.

I'd still suggest taking it to a shop that has a capable scanner to get codes before spending $$$$ on a module that may or may not fix it. Most of the latest scanners(good ones) from Crap-On or Matco will do it....ours will, anyway.

Thanks for the info. Took it to my mechanic to pull codes. It said "low blower motor".
So, I'm going to pick up a fan motor from my Volvo dealer and try to replace it myself. Any way to look up with the book-time is for this job?  Do you happen to have access to a professional how-to for it?  (Instead of an armature video, that is.)

Thanks!

I emailed you a link to the r&r procedure. Not sure if you can open it, so let me know. If you cannot get access, I'll copy it and send it that way. Thumbs Up
Shows .9 hours to replace.
