If you are talking about this website, click on the check box below the password when you login.  If you don't, the cookie has a timeout of maybe 10-15 minutes.

So if you start writing a post and take more than the expiration time of the cookie, when you do interaction with the server (when you click "send"), it basically tells you that your session has expired; bring you back to the login script, but lost what you wrote.

If you don't want to use the checkbox, then just take a copy of your post before you click "send"; place the cursor in the post, select "control-a" and then "control-c".  If you get a time out; just come back and hit control-v (paste) in the post reply window.

Personally, I always use "store password in cookie" or things like that, because I use a browser (Avant Browser) that automatically clears all temp files, cookies, history, web forms.... when I exit the browser.  So while my browser is up, the cookies are permanent and when I close the browser, they're all gone!

If you don't have a browser that clears your record, I understand why you would not want to have them "permanent" passwords/cookies just floating around on your PC; so you can prevent losing your post here just by taking a copy of it before hitting "Post Reply".

If either of these things were true, it would explain why you got that message:

Less than 20 seconds between submitting two posts.
Less than 7 minutes between submitting five posts.

This is in place to make sure somone doesn't SPAM the forums.

My guess is that you either hit the "Post" button two times quickly in a row by accident, or you just post a lot.

To add to Adam's reply -

If you are greeting new members, for example, and doing the copy-n-paste routine (or are just a fast typist) in replying to each new member with the same text, the "little site gremlin in the corner" sees the same message multiple times, licks its chops and says "OH Goodie - a spammer is at it!" and zaps a message back at the "spammer" to let them know they've been "busted".

There aren't many times when a high speed internet connection is a bad thing, but this is one of them.

This has happend to me many times, and every time it has been while greeting the new members. I do use the "copy/paste" method.

I learned this lesson the same way you are, Larry!! Adam explained it the same way to me before.
