I am a bit of a vette rookie here, but I was told that based on my car's VIN# 194678s417755, that the "19" means it's chevy, the "467" indicates convt and "8" means production year 1968 and the "417755" is the production number. It is possible to know if that is an early or late production model? And is there any other data than can be gleaned from the VIN? Thanks to all who reply...

Here's what the VIN Decoder (found on the 'Tools' tab above) came back with:
Division (1): Chevrolet
Car Line (9467): Corvette Convertible
Model Year (8): 1968
Plant (S): St. Louis, MO
Sequence Number: 417755
I think in the back of the 'Corvette Black Book' there is a breakout of VIN numbers by year and by month.
On the driver's side front door jamb should be a trim tag that has more information regarding your car (body build date, exterior color, interior color, etc).
Hope that helps some.

According to the Corvette Black Book, yours is one of the very first assembled in May '68...within the first 75 Corvettes assembled that month.

The vin # indicates that your car is the 17,755 'vette built during the '68 model year, out of a total production of 28,566 Corvettes. It would not be considered an early or late built car.

Thank you very much for the input. This was exactly the kind of input I was hoping to get. What an outstanding site with very knowledgable, polite chat room attendees. Perhaps endemic to being a Vette owner!

Hello,
Early vs. Late typically will refer to mid production changes in a model year. For instance, in 1968 68L is typified by the outside rear view mirror being moved rearward from the 68E location. Also, there was a minor change in the small gauge bezel having to do with a warning light of some sort.
Based on the build date given above, I would venture a guess your car is a 68L.

Your car is no. 17,755 of total production of 28,566. As such, I would say yours is neither early nor late.
Hi
Minor changes been done during 68 model year.
The canges started 69 model year and here you also find a early/late 69.
My 68 was assembled in October 67.
Can I say I have a 67 big block ?
Would be worse a bit more.
