My wife and I went to the Mucum Auto Auction last Saturday Jan. 24 in Kissimmee, Fl. They auctioned the Gulf (1) Vette, a 1963 split window Z-06 Vette that was considered the most sought after Car in the country. It was sponsored by Gulf Oil in 1963 and is the most sucessful factory-backed production racing Corvette in the C-2 era. The car was built for road racing and has a wonderful history. It was an honor to see it in person and watch it sell for $1,050,000. It sold to a guy in R.I. It was suppose produce 1400+ hp. gs77vet2009-01-26 14:13:02

Gene:
I know how exciting it is to be around cars like that. I was at that show in 1990 when the 69 ZL1 was there and also got to ride in one of the 57 SR2s to a photo shoot at Carlisle in 94.

1400hp Z06?
Imma tinkin more like 400?
That's otay tho, Gene...I get excited around stuff like that too!
Grady Davis(Gulf Oil) was a man that put a LOT of $$$ into a lot of cars(not just Corvettes) back in the '60s, and early '70s, and we can thank him for all of the history these cars gave us. These cars are all very historically important....not a lot of them survived, since they were, after all, just race cars. I'm glad a lot of them have been found, and restored to their former racing configurations. Are they worth that kind of moolah? Heck YEAH!

Vette(s): 1981 - 59 Beige over Cinnebar leather. Edlebrock top end, 2200 stall w/shift kit, 3:55s, Mufflex maniback exhaust, nice stereo, 16 in AREs w/BFGs
This year I was disappointed on the date of the show.  I'll be down this weekend for the guitar trade show.  The auction and the show are always on the same weekend except for this year. A good bro of mine owns GuitarBroker and Investment Motor Cars and it was nice running back and forth.  If you were at the auction last year, he had the 70 GTO RA-4 Ragtop in olive green..
