Police to auction 1984 Corvette used as squad car
MOORHEAD, Minn. -— The Moorhead Police Department's most recognized squad car goes on the auction block Saturday.
The 1984 blue and white Corvette has been used to promote the "DARE'' program, which promotes a drug-free lifestyle for teenagers.
Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist was a Moorhead DARE officer when the department got the first of two Corvettes about 12 years ago. The sports car was seized in a drug bust.
That car eventually was in an accident and was replaced by a similar car.
Bergquist says he took the DARE cars to schools and drove them in parades.
The sheriff says the car being auctioned off might be considered a collectors item because a toy replica was manufactured by Matchbox.

I followed a few links and found a related article that said they are replacing the Vette with a brand new SSR...!!!
Which links? I looked through without success. Way to many to look at them all. I didn't even find the car.
Considering the matchbox connection, someone might feel it's collectable. Interesting.
with the stickers and other police garb?
The link works well. Thanks.
You just gotta love that car.
Tallmadge Ohio has a DARE car that started life as a 91 Caprice. They got it in a drug raid. Some of the local merchants gave a hand and made this now police cruiser into a full tilt drag car. It's a real brute. Tube frame, race suspension and steering, custom built 750 HP motor, custom paint, everything. It is a true fire breathing monster. Tallmadge does drive it on the street to special events, but uses a regular cruiser as an escort. Tallmadge is not really that big, so they can drive it anywhere in the city very easily. It also gets trailered to shows etc.
How does a small city pull off something like this? Did I metion one of the locals that helped with work, parts, and donations is a place called Summit Racing? As Paul Harvey says, now you know the rest of the story.
