Ever wanted to put a car in the B/J auction?......
From a fellow NCRS member I get the following..

"My 1963 Z06 at Barrett-Jackson, epilog!"

As many have asked here is my impressions of Barrett Jackson. They are in it for the money, which I do not have a problem with since I owned my own business for nearly 40 years. What the give you and how they treat you is totaly unacceptable to a human being.
It was a once in life time experince for me. I only had the one car a 1963 Z06 that I bought new. I had all of the paper work all the way from the canceled checks, the order form signed by Duntov and Shinoda, the bill of sale, copies of all of the awards (Bloomington Gold, Duntov Award, Chip's Choice, Top Flights, In the first Bloomington Special Collection and others), all of the glove box material, etc. The car had its original tires, wheels and hub caps taken off 42 years ago in other words everthing was as it left the factory.
The first thing that bother me was that I had to pay a $1,200 consignment fee and since they said I had an Expo car I would have to pay an additional $200 to be in the main tent. I figure that I would get better exposure in the main tent next to the auction block. I arrived on Friday a week before the my car was to be on the block at the same time as Inter City unloads my car. These people did a fine job and I can not say enough about the great drivers ( they
let me drive my car into the trailer on the second deck). I drive my car up to the check in control station where I am told to park the car an wait for a person to inspect the car. After about a half hour of waiting in the sun a bozo comes over to look over the car and check the numbers. While going about his business he set a clip board on the roof of the car and sits on the fornt fender until I tell him to remove him self from my car. He was not to happy and did not appologize.
After he is done he tells me to go over to the photo tent and since I am an Expo car they should take me through soon an to go to the front of the line. The person at the line says yes I can go to the front of the line, he also told about 6 others the same thing. After two and one half hours of listening to the others that now had to wait because the Expo cars were moved to the front on the line I get to have my cars picture taken. In five minutes the pics are done and they tell me to move the car to the tent. That is fine but no one tells be where to go.
I drive around to the end of the big tent and fine an opening that I drive through. Luckly it is the correct tent. The just stick me off in a corner for a while until the figure out where to place the cars. It is apparent they have no clue where to place anyone. Besides that the grouch running the parking is having a bad day. After waiting for about 5 hours and moving the car once to a new location I leave to find my room for the week. I come back on Saturday
morning to find the car in a new location, the battery still connected and the ignition key in the with it in the on position. I never leave the battery hookedup since it is a old tar top battery.
After waiting for 8 or 9 hours they finally decide where they want my car. Most cars have a front row position where people can look at the car up close, not me, they stick me and about 10 other cars in a back row behind other cars. I paid $ 1,400 for this, wow how nice. On Sunday the day the public is first invited in they instlall a fence around the cars so no one can even get near the cars. The nasty parking guy comes around any time you start your car and
tells you to shut it down, yells something at you that he is afaid he will closed down by the Fire Marshal.
I had found an inexpensive place to eat lunch for the first few days but along about Tuesday they tell me I can not eat there since they were running out of the inexpensive food. Now I had to but the $8 salad with the $ 3 coke.
On Saturday no one comes around to tell you anything as to when to expect to have to move out for the Auction. Finally someone comes over and says to move the car to the staging area. He can not tell you how to get there. This is about 2 hours before the car is sheduled to be on the block. I find my way through the dusty path. This part turns into a zoo with what seemed like thousands of people milling around the cars. Yes I know this is part of what makes the show, but when you have to tell people to stop hitting you car with a beer bottle not once but twice that is getting to be to much.
Once in the four shoots the crowds really get wild, you can not even get out of the car. The attendants leading you up to the block are the first professional peolpe that treat you with respect. They try to ease your tension and can not do enough to help.
My car arrived on the block at 8:15 EST right after Coddington ran 4 car through. They must have spent to much time on his cars so the only had my car on the block for 2 min and 20 sec. before the hammer fell. They never read the entire intro and to me it seemed like that gave me the bums rush. Everyone there and that I spoke to after said why was it over so quickly. I had not idea of how short a time I spent on stage, it seemed like a long time then. Once home I viewed the tape and found out it was short of 2 1/2 minutes. They told us that we should be there for 3 minutes so now I do feel short changed.
Do not get me wrong, I am satisfied witht the price I got for my car I am not happy with the way they treated me and short time they spent selling the car.

I still do not know how bought the car, it his hard luck since the parts I had saved for him and would have given to him free will now appear on E Bay.

SOLD - "Betty" - '28 Ford Model A Tudor
Sold - "BLKBRRD" - '78 Pontiac Trans Am

Based on that experience I doubt I'd ever care to put a car through that mess.

That is b, They make it look so easy on TV, I would have thought the guys with the big money cars would be treated like royalty, after all aren't they the reason they have the auction in the first place, which makes Barrett- Jackson a lot of $$$$$$$$$$.

PS. Joel I also own my own Business and one thing they need to remember is 1 bad service failure sticks in peoples minds for a long time. And the word of mouth is one of our biggest sales tools. So for this one bad exsprience Barrett-Jackson will need 10 good ones just to catch up.

Thanks for letting thousands of car guys know that it isn't always what it seems.

OUCH....   on both.    I have been to a B/J auction.   Was looking for an original '70 Cougar Eliminator.   Well, luckly I didn't put a bid on it and asked the owner some questions.  Found out that it wasn't original nor any of the wear and tear parts are not the reproduction parts nor original.      And that owner even placed the muscle car as original.  What an a....  It was sold for $60K's usd.   So I did what a good citizan would do and told the new buyer about the car and he was...  I'll say this.....        hahahaha...  I bet he sold it the next week...
