Vette(s): Used to own a 1979 Corvette now owned by JB79
I just heard that they are considering charging visitors a fee to take a tour of the Corvette plant! Word is that it will cost $5.
Personally, I'm disgusted! I would not want to have to pay for that tour!
What are your thoughts? Would you pay anything? What is the max you'd be willing to pay?
Perhaps if enough of us voice our opinion, the plans will change.
Thanks!

What is the cost of offering plant tours? There is additional security, personnel to conduct the tour and probably cost in preparing presentations. If I were to drive to Bowling Green to tour the plant I would not be offended by a nominal charge to enter. After all, if a tour is not worth a couple of bucks perhaps the plant is not worth touring.

I guess this is gonna take .03 cents worth.
In my opinion, I would have to guess that the people who take the tour ( a VERY high percentage of them ) are already Corvette owners. They should be getting some kind of break. After all, the new commercials say zero percent financing or cash back on all models EXCEPT Corvette. It isn't like they don't sell enough of them. It isn't like they don't make money on each and every one they sell.
They should be dragging people off the streets to show off their plant in hopes of convincing them to buy a new Vette because it is assembled so well, so safely, etc. etc..
It's bad enough they charge so much for museum delivery.
I better stop now before GM reads this and either charges me $5.00 for my opinion or bans me from buying any more of their products. ( I only have 5 of them in my garage now )

I have to agree with Glenn.
GM is not hurting for money...far from it. I've owned GM's all my life and have spent tons of money on parts and accessories from GM. Hell..Michele and I went and bought a brand new '03 S10 4x4 loaded, 2 weeks ago for $24,800. They gave us a hard time about my Military Discount,(almost like pulling teeth) but finally after giving them more info than required we got it. Then I tell the salesman to take out the plastic bedliner and deduct the cost ($249), because I'm going with a spray on liner...no problem. We go to do the final paperwork and the guy says oh, buy the way, I forgot to include the cost of the "Theftguard" feature ($249.) I had to laugh. How petty and cheap can they be. And they used to say "Get that great GM feeling", well I was getting a feeling at my lower rear extremedy that I didn't care for. GM is just plain CHEAP! And thats my .02 cents!

Man that sucks they backdoored you like that, especialy when they advertise military discount all I should have to show is my military ID that say active duty marine corps and it be valid! what else could they want a leave and earnings statement maybe but the ID card should have been enough!
And as for paying to take the tour, the kids giving the tour are college kids who are working there for the summer, at least my tour guide was and she didnt know crap about corvettes! She made so many mistakes!
I think it should stay free if I have to pay the tour better get longer and the guides better be corvette fanatics who know it all!

My visit 7/18/03 was still a freebie. Hopefully it will stay that way.
Hey Johnny, I went back to that same dealership and asked for the same salesman. And guess what...he no longer works there. I was going to chew him out a little bit and let him know that I had just went down the road and purchased another new S-10 (ZR5 Crew cab..nice) from an honest salesman without all the hidden and unnecessary B.S.
