I have a 2000 C5 that chirps all the time.
I've changed the belt and the tenchenors and it still chirps.
I'm at my wits end. Anybody got a remedy?

Micki, I chased that birdy for a while on the C3 ..... it was a fouling spark plug!

Water pump bearing ,pulley, or power steering unit ?? You can try white lithium grease on all the pulleys. Don't use oil or WD 40 on the belts.. You can try a little soap on the belt, use a bar of soap to rub on the belt. My 2 cents

Seems like when I've had that happen its more about the brand of new belt. Change to a different brand and check your torque on the tensioner. They tend to need tightening greater than you would think is appropriate. If it started with a used belt, continued with a new belt...I'd guess one of your driven devices has a bearing going out....it causes greater than normal drag.
My Christmas present to ME! Bought Sat 11-30-2013. 72, 350 4 spd, Silver with blue interior...Can't you just hear Pablo Cruz playing in the background?

On my first '98 C5 it would chirp when I first started and continue until you drove it for a while. Turned out to be the Top tensioner, but 6month later it returned when I was in CA, so I took it to J&D Corvette in Bellflower and they replaced the bottom tensioner and it went away and I never heard it again.
On my current '98 C5 which is a 4 owner CO car with 68,036 miles on it, the chirp started about 6 months ago. Figured it was the tensioners, but since it would stop after the car warmed up, I just put it off.
Well about 2 months ago I noticed that the Temp gage started showing half way between middle and red. Car never over heated, but it was like the cooling system had found a new center point towards hot. At this point I didn't want to guess one part at a time and because it also had that unrelated chirp, I drove it to the dealership. I had them change both tensioners; thermostate; water pump and the serpentine belt. $900 parts and labor after $200 club discount and the bird is gone that the temp is perfect.
I had them save me the parts so I could see the condition. The belt was severly cracked and needed changing and they said the Thermostat was also bad. Both tensioners had rough bearings so it was good I had them changed. The water pump looks good and spins freely and smooth. Chirp can be caused by a number of things and for that reason I satisfied with what I did...............and it's gone!
God Bless, rick

I would look at the belt tensionors. Sounds like the bearing in one or both are starting to wear out.
How many miles do you have on it now?

Hey there Al, good to hear from you! Heck, I've tried everything your talking about, even the soap thing. The soap made it worse for some reason. I've replaced the tensioners and the belts. Maybe the car is just happy and it chirps!

Hi Jimmy, good to hear from you! I'm trying to jump in hear more now. I had a lot of bad stuff happen, but I still have my vettes. I have serious lower disk problems in my back, herniated disk and arthritis.........sucks. Just found out about the disk.........now I know why I hurt so bad. I guess my C5 must have a herniated bearing somewhere!
