Got my 78SA up and running this last week. Started right up after about 4 months, even tho I had the distributer out last month. Replaced intake gaskets due to a slight water leak. Had also pulled the valve covers again(did gaskets last fall)and stripped and painted them. Even baked them in the oven, wife thought I was nuts. Turned out better than new. Didn't bother changing the tire air
but this was the year to flush the brake system. New coolant while I had the chance. Set the timing, checked for leaks and was all set. Just couldn't go anywhere as the drive to the barn is grass and it's too soft right now
. Probably won't be out for a few more weeks. This coming week, one brake caliper rebuild on the 79 and it should be ready to go. Mike

My rule of thumb is if you put it up right it shoulfd be ready to go upon fire up time. Turn the key and watch watch goes on. It is allot like first responder training Look, listen , & react if necessary.
I fired mine off earlier this morning after 6 mos of rest. Everything was fine. After a an initial easy drive I found out those old header gaskets have to go. Maybe I will get lucky and be able to tighten up the header bolts. But.... past experience says that these babies are toast. Last thing I want is to go on a local trip and listen & smell exhaust once one blowes out.
