OK, now we're getting close to bringing the baby out of the cacoon.
What are the proper steps to getting her road-worthy again?
What are us northerners supposed to do when the temperature stays above 32, the salt trucks have made their last run and the sun starts to shine?
Do I change out the oil I put in just before buttoning her up last fall?
Check the transmission fluid?
Put more gas stabilizer in the tank?
Change the air in the tires?
Rotate the tires?
Check the frame for rust?
What?

Check all the fluids.  If the engine has not built moisture, there is no need to change the oil again.  If you are not sure, change it.  Stablizer won't be necessary. Changing tire air is not necessary.  Rotate as you would normally based on mileage and tire wear. Down time has no affect in tire rotation.

Once you know everything is full and the mice have not created any destruction, start it up.  Let it idle for a bit, then drive it.  Take it easy for a few miles to make sure the brakes and everything else is working properly.  Then hit the road and enjoy!

I actually convinced my ex-sister in law to do this. Told her "The winter air has to be changed for summer air". Stood by and laughed when she took it to a gas station to do it.

I have changed air for people who insisted on having it done, and have paid for it in the past.  I never charged them for it.  Just to make a customer happy.  They have their mind made up, don't confuse them with the facts!

I always just make sure the battery is charged up, give her a wash job to blow the stink off, and go! Like Ken said stabelizer won't be necessary as its already done its job. "Happy Vettin", Terry

You sure that air ain't too stale?
Can't wait to see if the battery tender did its job.
Weather permitting, I'll bring her home Friday.

It snowed last night about 3 inches, but by noon today it was almost all gone. The streets were dry, so I brought her home around 4:30 pm. Had to crank her for about 10 seconds before she fired up. I did check the oil and tranny first to see if there was any sign of condensation. All looked good. No signs of little critters either. The garage holds about 25 vehicles. Was built 2 years ago, just for winter storage.
Had a nice 1.5 mile drive home. Man, that felt reeeealy good.
I did come straight home, because there was a nice coating of salt from this morning.
Now we can continue with the fixes.

I finally started mine up yesterday. It sat for 5 mos. but fired right up after 10 sec. of cranking. I'm jealous that Dave got to drive his already. Can't wait til a couple good rainstorms to wash the salt away.

Ken,

When I started my car up it smelled like antifreeze burning for a minute or two. The smell went away. Engine temp was good, and it ran smooth.  Can this happen due to not being run for a few months? What's your thoughts?

Darryl, I wouldn't worry about it.  You can get all kinds of odd smells when you first fire one up after sitting.  It very well may have been deposits left in the intake mixed with some condensation.

I fired mine up today as well.  It's been about 2 months.  Now when it gets a bit warmer there is much more to do.
