i am going to be replacicing the egr valve on my 90. the way it appears
i think i can just take off the plenum and not all the tubes to the
manifold to get to the valve. am i correct in assuming this or is there
something hiding that i missed. thanks for any help.

Nope...just the top plenum needs to come off. Lucky YOU!
If you're REALLY lucky, you will be able to spread the "tubes"(runners) out enough to get it out and back in fairly easily. Sometimes, tho, you have to loosen at least one side...but getting to two of the bolts is a pita, as they come in from the INSIDE...you need a really long #40 torx bit to get them.
Take pics, and take your time, and all should be ok.
Spray the two nuts/bolts down that hold the egr valve on before ya start, to give it time to soak...you sure don't want to hear one of those bad boys go "snap!"
You really shouldn't have any problems, tho. Just be sure you get the correct EGR valve, and plenum gaskets.

thanks joel. was hoping that would be the case and i need some kind of
break with this car. will soak the egr as suggested but it may have
been replaced before (don't know for sure). ordered the complete intake
gasket set as it wasn't really that much more and this way i know i
have any gasket i might need. also ordered the stock egr valve. they
also sell a self cleaning model but i will stay with the one that was
made for it.

Does that mean you take it off, and clean it yourself?

never heard of it before either and i don't want to be the test case
for it. have been going nuts enough and don't need anything else to
drive me insane.
