this is on a 1988 corvette. a friend has a 88 vet that has been shutting off then after a short time will start back up. today he could only get 2 blocks from his house and it cut off -- he immediately restarted the car and drove it home. he has replaced the fuel pump, filter, various sensors, plugs and wires . sorry this is second hand info and i haven't looked at the car up close. this could be an electrical problem. before i venture out of the C3 problems i am open to any and all suggestions?

Did the fuel sock in the tank get replaced? Always overlooked...it fits over the pickup and if it gets clogged with rust and debris it can do exactly what you're describing.

I fought the exact same problem with my '85 last year...I wound up replacing the ECM.
I went thru all the usual troubleshooting, tracing wires, checking this that & the other. I replaced the coil, module, cap, rotor, fuel pump relay, etc....still wound up replacing the ECM when the final tests showed the wiring to/from it was ok.
It needs a fuel pressure gauge on it, so you can see if the fuel pressure is dropping before it dies.
There may also be a problem with the anti-theft system that would cause the same symptoms.
btw...I moved this thread out of the C3 engine forum
