Here's the deal.......I've decided to get my '85 back out on the road, but I gots to put some new tires on it. I took the new Goodyears it had off & put on some chrome factory rims with Yokohamas. They are ALL old & dry-rotted now. I hate to shell out the cash for tires, but I gots to. There is a limited number of options for a 255-50VR-16 tire. Anybody out there have any feedback on what you use in this size? I want a good tire that will handle well in most conditions ((except snow; don't get that around here much!) I'm looking at:
Yokohama---Avis V4s
Goodyear---Eagle HP Ultra Plus
Like I said, not many choices here. Any suggestions???

Dunlop has that size in their SP Sport 8000 series and Kumho does in their ECSTA 712 line. Prices seem to be pretty comparable, so compare their traction, temp and treadwear ratings to see which is the best value. The Dunlops are Summer only tires...not much of a problem for you in Texas.

I've had Dunlop tires in the past and was well satisfied. I've no experience with Kumho, but have heard good things about them.

Here is a pair that will go good for your '85.  And cheap for the outstanding performance you get with these.

Enjoy!

Thanks guys! I've got Dunlops on the Mercedes, and so far they've been good. I've also heard (& read) pretty good things about the Kumhos, but the name kinda sounds like a pimp hollerin' at his girls! I've just gotta get some info together before I head out to the tar stores this weekend. I know the Yokohamas that're on it now have always been really rough riders, and they hydroplane like you wouldn't believe . Mama drives this car, and she don't like no friggin surprizes!!
Thanks for the input folks!

Now that's funny

Anybody remember "Velvet Jones" from the old school Saturday Night Live??? An old Eddie Murphy character.

I'm going with the Falken ZE 512 tires.(thnx Iron82) I checked out the Falken web site and decided the Falken things would be OK. Called Discount Tire, and they said they would have to get the Falken tires out of their Falken Phoenix warehouse, but could have them next week, and the price on the Falken things is $540, tt&l. I'll let you know how the Falken set-up works out.

I have Falken truck tyres on my 4X4 Chevy and they are awesome on and off road.

When I bought my corvette, they had Falken's on them.  I was werry on them while driving from Florida(rained all the way through the state).  Never heard of them so I test drove them hard.   I was very impressed and they held up to there expectations.

You will feel the performance of those tyres you got.  To me they are way better then the others.

Enjoy!

I ordered the Falken ZE-512 tars, and then the guy calls today and informs me that they DON"T have the Falken things anywhere in the country. So...... I got the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712. They were able to locate them locally.(about $40 more) Get them installed Sat. morn. I hope they're good tars for this 'Vette.
