* (the MPG figure is calculated - not what the car displayed)

Heading west a majority of the time the cruise was set at 5 over the posted limits in Minnesota (70), North Dakota (75), Idaho (75), Washington (70), and Oregon (65 - except for one uphill burst of 114 MPH! Shocked ) and 10 over the posted limit in Montana (75).  Caravan driving (Cascade Highway, Crater Lake, McKenzie Scenic Highway) almost always results in lower MPG for some reason. LOL

Heading for home a more leisurely pace was maintained and we benefited from a tail wind (jetstream?) across North Dakota and Minnesota.  btw - the A/C was on for about 75% of the miles and the "go fast key" was turned off for 95+% of the miles.

I know the C5 and C6 cars are capable of better mileage than what "The Beast" can deliver, but I'm still impressed with how nice a road car it is for being one of the first Corvette "Super Cars".

Vette(s): Gone, but not forgotten: 1974 Coupe Red, matching numbers, Black Interior, L-48 w/ 4 speed; The “Admiral”, also gone and never to be forgotten. 1994 Admiral Blue LT-1 coupe, Black Interior Automatic
I caravaned with Norsky for the western leg of the Corvette odyessy to Bend. "The Admiral" ('94 LT1 coupe) averaged almost exactly 23 mpg. Since I was following Norsky for the journey west, my speed patterns matched his, except when he passed me doing a $1.14. As he slowed, I was doing about a $1.05 to catch up. Big smile. I pretty much maintained the same speed patterns headed east. Had my cruise control been working, I probably could have attained a slighlty higher MPG average.

While not in the super car category, "The Admiral" performed flawlessly, was great fun to drive and surprisingly comfortable as long as you remember not to sit on your wallet!

Good to see that kind of mileage there. And that the car ran GREAT!

It didn't last very long.  While I was standing there pumping premium into "The Beast" a fellow came out of the store and said that my timing was perfect.  "Everything is going up a dime a gallon - right now."  Nice to get lucky once in awhile...!!!

Not bad there, Jim! My '85 gets 25mpg most of the time, even with ME driving! Course, it's not near as exciting to drive as a ZR1!!!

Wow -- good mileage and fun -- what a combination!!  I noticed with our Vette the faster the range the better the mileage -- 75 - 80 was good for 18mpg, 65-70 good for 15 and below 60 was a rock solid 12 so it pays to be green and go fast -- I don't know what Trooper Smith was complaining about.Wink

finally arrived and rarin' to ride
