after over a year, i finally got my 90 running great. computers did wonders for cars but certainly made working on them a nightmare. there should be a law banning dumbies from working on them as most of the problems were caused by someone doing something stupid.

i had been constantly having problems with the egr system and it appeared to be from being clogged. wound up pulling intake off and it was clean. what i did find though was probably the cause of most of my problems.

it was removed before and who ever did it was a real jerk. across the front and back of block must have used a whole tube of silicone. the coolant ports on the head had about a 1/4" bead of silicone around the inside of them.

when i reinstalled everything, i made sure not to overload the silicone and said a few prayers. started her up and she basically sounded better. i changed the oil before using it and she seemed to run better. after all the time running screwy, i wound up changing plugs, wires, cap and rotor and now she runs like a bat out of hell. guess i must have been running with a small intake leak at the manifold.

thanks for some of the advice i got from here and it was a learning experience from start to finish.Big%20smileThumbs%20UpClap

Dave I can't believe you kept your composure when writing about all of the silicone. C4's are just now coming into their prime with problems... Many are now gaining some age on them. Wiring is starting to corrode, vacume hoses are becoming brittle, and Bubba has visited several of these by now.

Congrats on getting it up and running smoothly! Now you can be considered as one of C3VR resident C4 experts.....

Way to go with sticking with it. I know at times it can sure get frustrating trying to figure out what's wrong. Been there more than once with some of my cars. Having forums like this sure make it much easier on the troubling shooting side and then there is the encouragement to keep you going.
