Vette(s): #1 -1969 Corvette Coupe Riverside Gold, black interior,MN,A/C,350/350,PS,PB,window cranks.
#2 -2000 C5, black/black, 6 sp, Bose system & lots of buttons.
Last Friday my heart broke and so did my C5.
An 18 Wheeler threw a complete retread. I had no place to go.......so I HAD to run over it...
I was on Interstate 20 taking some original C3 parts to my Mechanic to put back on the 69 Greypoop-on when it happened. I'm posting some pictures I took today at the body shop. I do NOT have a Vette to drive now..........so sad.....

I got stuck with a Chevy Cobalt.........

Dang Micki !.... that did some serious damage !
That hurts just look'n at it. Important part is you didn't get hurt.

Mick! That's truly awful--I'm so sorry to hear about/see your damaged black beauty. But at least you're OK--and the body shop can put her right back to tip-top shape.
Hang in there, girl--you still have two great Corvettes, and they're both gonna be back in operation some time soon.
It's pretty bad out there, isn't it? If it's not the crazy drivers, it's debris flying at you out of nowhere.
(P.S. I drove a Chevy Cobalt just a couple of weeks ago. A rental car. I was not too impressed; I'd expected better. But at least it'll get you around pretty economically--and it'll definitely make you appreciate your C3/5 all the more when you have 'em back!)

Micki,
Sorry to see Otis hurting so badly. Hope all can be put back together to YOUR satisfaction.
When are they going to outlaw retreads?
This shows how dangerous they are when they let loose.
And I am sure it is always at high speed.
I don't like being anywhere near 18 wheelers on the highway.

Micki:
The corvette nation feels your pain!
Here is a small measure of poetic justice if it will help to ease your pain:
Twas a warm summer night and I was headed home in Molly (my daily driver, Chrysler Sebring convertible, top down!). Crossing the Minnesota river on I-494 , I hit one of those gosh darn things. Did no damage to Molly, but nailed the 18 wheeler behind me, who was really following a bit too close. Hit 'em flush in the right fender, smashing the headlights! There is a god
There is no substitute for low end torque!
About 5 years ago I bought a brand new Mazda Pro-5 wagon. I had the car about a week. On I78 going to a Mets Game, same thing happened doing about 75mph. I lost my bumper, destroyed the hood etc. Prob was it caved in the a-piller. THANKFULLY this happened right next to a State Trooper. Limited misery.... This will scare the tar out of you...

Ouch!!!
Now THAT is some serious damage. Hard to believe that a retread would cause all of that damage, but when the rubber meets the plastic . . . . Sorry to hear you are without a Vette, Mick. Hang in there, 'cause this, too, shall pass. (pssst . . . stay away from them 18-wheelers!! Bad fer yer health.)
