I've been in the market for a chrome bumper C3 for a while now. I found a car at vintagevettes, LLC that had promise. So I made a few calls into them, got some typical information - confirm matching numbers, discuss condition of the car, the ususal. The sales manager suggested that he type up the one page contract and fax it to me because "sometimes looking at the numbers on paper can help". I said fine - send it. Anyway, I sent him an e-mail saying I was going to pass but counter- offerred to pay 94.5% of the asking price. Certainly not a low-ball, particularly considering the car has been in inventory for 6 months. Below is the exact response I got from the sales manager. Needless to say, I will not be buying from these guys:
"You must fallen and hit your head recently. I want to personally thank you for wasting my time on this deal. I really think you can’t afford this type of car, and you need to be looking for a certified used Honda or something. That way you won’t pay too much and everything works for you, plus you won’t have to worry about a 36 year old car not working right. Good luck finding a nicer car at this price range; trust me you won’t!"

The top sales guys usually aren't in "internet sales". I'd forward his response to the sales manager.
Sounds like he was having a bad day. If he keeps that up, he won't have a job long.

Email emboldens some and allows others to make complete fools of themselves.
One company I worked for had a policy that email was for data transfer only. If you needed to send an email for other than data transfer, get up and walk to the person you are wanting to send it to.
This really kept down the incidents of email wars and flamings that are part of the culture.
This idiot doesn't get that you have a voice to everyone here and that he might need to rethink his position of flaming people in the future.
I would definitely mention to his sales manager that since you are a member of the C3VR (explain it in small words so he understands who we are and how big the circulation is) you felt obliged to post this response for all to see.
You may be suprised at the response you get.

I would definitely speak with the owner/Sales manager, and let them know how at least ONE of their sales staff is running business off. You stated you were going to pass on the car, but you did at least make an offer. Seems to me like a sale would be better than nothing, which is what they have now.
Thanx for the heads-up on these guys.

What a JERK that Sales Manager is.
I would find out who owns that place and send him a copy of the Manager's response.
He needs to be reported, it's just not good business.
Let us know what happens if you report this jerk.

This forum is great - I feel better already. Adam's Apple - I did counter offer with an amount that equated to almost 95% of his list price. I sure didn't expect that kind of response. Anyway, I did mention in my response that I would make sure the corvette forums were made aware of the way this was handled. (If you see a similar string in another forum I apologize in advance). I also called to speak with the owner - no response yet!
Now lets say he turned around and said I cannot go any lower for you on the price, I wish I could, but we just have too much invested.
What would your response have been, would you have bought it?

It never hurts to offer a lower number, they can always say NO!, I just don't understand people these days. I would say the owner would have NOT given you a response like that one, I agree with the others, find the boss and let him know how is company is being represented.
I would also throw in there that you are a member of C3, and the folks on the forum are having a field day with your sales reps comments.
