I know over time tires degrade and are nolonger safe to run on the road.
But what about hoses (and belts too)? I would guess the same would apply - rubber degrades over time regardless of the application - correct?
The reason I ask is that I saw a set of NOS radiator hoses for "The Beast" listed on eBay and I'm wondering if they would be any good after 18 years (don't know the actual manufacture date).

Are you planning on having the car NCRS/Bloomington judged and would otherwise need correct hoses? If not, I would be a little wary of trusting 18 year old rubber any further than off the trailer and on to the judging field.

Last question is whether you feel the cost of the NOS set is worth the few points you might pick up.

Thanks. Not planning on having the car judged. It was just a curiousity question to confirm my thoughts on rubber parts.
When putting on the new set of GYs we did keep the original tires (bagged and stored in the basement) and will offer them to the next caretaker in case they might plan on having the car judged. Not sure I'd do the same with belts and hoses.
Might make the Vette worth more to the next owner if you had a bag of unused NOS parts.
But probably not.

Belts and hoses aren't really subjected to the same UV/heat/chemical decomposition as tires are, so they do have a little better shelf life. I would get the NOS stuff(if it's affordable) now, before the prices get completely out of hand.
That's just me. I regret buying some NOS/original stuff for my car a few years ago...now i can't afford the stuff!
