So, what would be the ultimate Corvette event?
I have had many thoughts about this.
Straight shows are rather boring for the ladys, and race events don't often attract the really nice show pieces.
Celebrities and car shows are always great, but not everybody likes the celebrity. Celbrity picks are also fun, but that can be political.
Finally, judging can be so subjective, there should be a better way to pick a winner.
Here is my thought. How about a show event that is like the "tri athelon of cars" type deal.
Gainesville Speedway would work perfect. They have a drag and autox road race course on the same parcel of land. Could you imagine having all the show contestants line up for registration, then get listed in a particular order. Get a tech check and saftey meeting. Cruise into the speedway and make for the drag strip. Each car would get two to three runs and be allowed to pick the quickest one for competition. They would just cycle through, come back in line, then run again. Afte all have made the three runs, they would head straight to the autox track and begin a three run series with spectators working the corners, etc.
Then, after that is complete, they would caravan across town to meet up in a large parking lot for refreshments, and show & shine. Points could be awarded in such a way that maybe an ugly fast car could get up to an award just a well as a trailer queen.
It would be the ultimate challenge of muscle, finess, driving skills, and durability.
How cool would that be?
It sure would make for an all day event.
So, what ideas do you guys have?

I'm with dukky, less structure more chaos. It'll be loads of fun, and no stress for anyone!

I like the "Vette" magazine sponsored event held every summer at Englishtown, NJ. . .called 'Corvette Show and Go'. They have various events which you can participate in. . .do one or as many as you want. They have a judged show with various classes. . .you can drag race your Corvette on the NHRA track there. . . or you can autocross your Vette. It is really a fun day. . . and attracts several hundred Corvettes.

Hey Adam, since you are the brains, braun, and money behind C3VR, I am looking forward to a national C3VR meeting. It would really be great to put faces to some of the names here. How many states and countries are represented now??
Keep up the great work.

Hey Rick,
Check out the most current Member Map 10-2002 (found on the Community page's Member Stats link) for where the C3VR membership is scattered about about the globe. Pretty impressive I'd say for just over a year of being in existence.

As a matter of fact, I just updated some typos in people's profiles to make sure that their Country name was spelled right. There are still a couple, that chose to enter garbled text as their country (god forbid they narrow down their location to a country), so there are a couple of country names that don't make sense on the list. But it is very interesting to see just how many are outside North America!

Rick, as of now, the closest thing to a National C3VR Event will be the C3VR at the National Corvette Musuem in September 2004. I am really looking forward to it, and we should have more details by the end of 2003. Plus, it gives us another year and a half to increase membership, so the event can be HUGE!

Chris,
You mention awards to ugly fast cars, why would you invite Fords and Mopars to a Corvette event?
I think a GREAT C3 event would be for our Australian members to host it and to have the C3 treasury pay for all the rest of us to go
Ok Adam, get back up off the floor. If the treasury had that kind of money, I bet you would be the first to offer it for a really wild event and it would also mean you have done a tremendous job with the registry.
( we already know you have done that anyhow ).
Well, at least think about it ??

Nope, you can't let other brands of cars enter this challenge. It would get way too busy.
BTW, Nikki came up with a great idea for a car show. She said there should be a competition for the "dirtiest" still used and worn work shirt. Dirty as in grease, paint, wax, rips, tears, etc.
Man, I have some hum dingers in my drawers!
There should also be more ongoing things for the ladies and children. Maybe a tent set up with trivia contests for classic music, cooking contests, etc. etc. etc. More of a carnival atmosphere maybe in conjunction with the show and shine.
